copying question with clone cd

Hello everyone. I have a question about Clone Cd and Daemon Cd tools. I recently got a new burner, a TDK CDRW 4800B. I wanted to back up a copy of BF 1942 using Clone CD. It seemed to work, however when I tried to play the game it asked for the cd. So i tried Daemon CD tools with its emulation feature and the game starts up fine. Do I have to use these tools in order to play a copied game? IF so, do they cause problems playing the game(meaning do they kill system resources, RAM etc..) If so, is there a way to copy the game and have it play right of the copied disk? My system is a P4 2.53 Ghz, 1 gig of ram, ASUS P4PE mobo with win xp. Any help is appreciated.

Many newer copy protections have a check atip. If you attempt to play back-up cdr in a burner the program detects atip and fails the program.
Solution 1- Play game in regular cd player or dvd player (which most can't read atip).
Solution 2- Use a hide atip program such as the one with daemons or the one in CloneCD tray. If yours is greyed out and unavailable there is a work around in one of the stickies on this forum.

Thanks for the info. I am curious to know if an atip hiding utility is a bad thing to have. Does it slow down performance of a game or have any other negative effects?

The ATIP hiding utility is unlikely to have any noticable affect on the games playability. However as it is a running program it will consume a small amount of system resource. If you are that close to minimum spec. that you need every last ounce of processor power then you can live without it, but as ww1912 says, you'll need to play from a regular CD- or DVD-ROM drive.

The other downside to using an ATIP hiding utility is that the latest SafeDisk version [2.9.x] has, as part of the guard module, a piece of code that checks for the existance of the ATIP hiding utility and will refuse to authenticate the game [even the originals ] if it is running.
