Clone CD Discuss, copying cds at Burning Software forum; I have 2 cd roms drives (dvd and cdrw) why does it write the cd to HD then write to cd. Is there a way to do a on-the-fly copy so it doesnt write to a image file before copying ??

When you pull up Clone CD the first menu box is Read to Hard drive, the Second is Write from Hard drive to Disk, And the Third box is for Disk to Disk, if you have a Reader and Writer that Play well Clone CD.......

Nope it still takes 5 minutes to read to an image then it burns... i want it to do a cd to cd burn (no image, direct burn).. Nero will copy cd to cd on the fly and it takes less than 3 minutes at 24x..... nero takes like 10 minutes just to copy the damn cd. but i dont want to use nero to copy..... I dont know if clone cd just isnt working write because my source drive is a dvd drive or what......

He meant disc to disc... Here's the deal with On-the-Fly:
  • Many CD-ROMs only run in PIO Mode (CPU hoggers - up to 100% overhead) and cannot and never will run in UDMA mode (5-8% CPU overhead)
  • keep PIO mode devices away from UDMA devices (different channels)
  • Master ATA100 disk & Slave PIO 'ROM is 'to die for', literally
  • You really need a UDMA33 busmaster writer and a UDMA33 busmaster reader - same IDE channel is best
  • If you have to put an optical device with a disk, pick the busmaster ATAPI device
  • It is almost impossible to backup error based copy protection using PIO to PIO on the same channel
  • it's nearly as disastrous even when they're on different IDE channels
  • some busmaster writers will not run as a slave
  • If the ATAPI busmaster is cabled to an ATA66 (or faster) disk then use an 80-conductor UDMA cable
  • smart devices or chipset drivers will detect a 40-conductor cable and notch the mode back from UDMA to PIO
If you still want to try then be prepared for some coasters - especially with LaserLock, SD & ProtectCD. Nero & DiscJuggler will do SecuROM, on the fly, noooo trouble.

Maybe a dumb remark but have you selected the On-the-Fly option when using the third button in CloneCD:
