Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

I dont think you can compress the data on a nav disc to fit on one dvd, i suggest you get a dual layer burner and get dual layer disc and do it that way. Even if you had to buy both items it is still cheaper than buying the nav disc from alpine!!!

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

Hello

This is my 1st post but have been doing lots of searches and reading

I too am also trying to do the same in trying to back up my Alpine DVD navigation disk, my original disk is now scratched as doesn’t always read in the machine causing it to lock up and reject the disk. I have already had quite a few goes at copying this and with no luck so far.

I have tried to copy it using the latest version of CloneCD by making an image 1st the burning back out, according to the file structures this made a perfect copy everything was identical in every way but yet it wouldn’t load.

I also have a Rar file of the latest disk which extracts to a full 7.9gb set of files, I burnt this using nero as a UDF – DVD but again didn’t work.

I have tried scanning the disk using A-Ray scanner but this seems to do almost nothing. I take it is because the dvd cant be installed on my pc ? When I try scanning it finds nothing also the scan is over in 0.02 seconds inc all 3 scans.

Can anyone help me out with this, surely it MUST be possible to copy this disk now we have duel layer writers

I’m using Traxdata DVD+R DL disks and a Pioneer 3520A writer

Cheers
Matt

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

I have acura cl type s 2003 and it has alpine dvd navi. I have successfully copied the 2004 navi dvd on duallayer dics but it does not work when i put it in the dvd player in my car. The security around is as such. The protection is very similiar to the way sony playstation protects there discs. They have code on inner layer of the disc that the dvd hardware player reads at first load. So copy the dvd is only one part of it. Thats is the easy part. You would need a mod chip for the player to get it to work or something like that.

Im not postive about this but if anyone else have anything to offer that would be great.

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

Hi
I have successfully made a backup of Eclipse's Nav Disc as well as Pioneer's Nav Disc. I used DVD Decrypter to create an ISO file and then burnt the image onto a +R DL disc. I used my Benq 1620 dual layer burner using its bit setting as a DVD rom.

The Pioneer has no problems playing back the burnt Nav disc. It will also play burnt movies. The Eclipse is just a bit more touchy. Most days it will play the burnt Nav disc but sometimes it does not like the burnt Nav disc. It also plays limited burnt discs. It will not play -R burnt discs. It has someting to do with the laser tolerences and the amount on the disc.

I hope this helps

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

I'm going to step out on a limb here and ask a question since i'm not sure exactly how these disks work, are these disk used in a optical device in a vehicle? If so then my question would be this how would you stop the "device" in the vehicle from reading the ATIP on a copied cd/dvd. At least with the computer you can use any number of tricks to block the ATIP, but in a vehicle how would you accomplish this same task? I understand bitsetting may work for those dvd's may work but not foolproof by any means. Could it be until this solution is worked out making copies of them could be useless?

That works brilliantly. No quality loss.

Perfect.

hi Chthomson,

Thanks in advance for your reply,

Mike

I've had good results from making sure the burned disk is a DVD-ROM booktype and also burning Disk-At-Once (DAO)

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

I asked this question earlier this year.....and this is what I was told below...I realize this thread is old but perhaps others have found a solution

Most, if not all, car nav discs, use PTP (parallel track path) media, where the disc is written from the inside out on both layers. DL discs you can buy use OTP (opposite track path) where the media writes the first layer from the inside out and the second from the outside back in.

Satnav discs are picky as to where the data is on them. So, data on the 1st layer will be fine, but the minute you need to access the second layer, you're stuffed.

Sadly, there is no PTP media on the market (that I know of) and therefore your project is doomed.

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

not sure what your point is...I saw the year...but NO answers anywhere....so I thought I would post what I had just learned in another post and perhaps it would promt some other info. When I searched on this issue, backing up Alpine navi discs this thread popped up.

Re: copying Alpine Nav DVD

Isn't PTP vs. OTP the problem with all these navi discs?
