Thank you, I wasn't aware of this.

Unfortunately, Clonedvd2 will still not preserve the original layer break using +R DL media, regardless of whatever writing method you use. So, in this case, I would still prefer to use Clonecd.

it was only a test and i've never used it again

edit, i should add that it was a backup that i tested it with, so no compression (SL)
Oh yeah i've used it also but you don't want to burn over 8X as the buffer will run out. Make sure your source drive has riplock removed I've never tried DL discs with it.

Re: CloneCD hangs PC with PX-750A and DVD+R DL

I returned the second 10-disc spindle of the Microcenter Windata media - and got $10 back. About of the discs in the first spindle are unreadable. Just a waste of time and money.

I got two 20-discs spindles of Verbatim 2.4x DL media, which the Plextor burns at 4x. Each spindle was $35. I know I could get 8x media for that price online.
But I figured this media will work best for on the-fly-copy, since I measured the average speed of my reader to be about 5.5x . This way there shouldn't be any underrun.

I just watched one DL backup done on the Verbatim media in my living room Pioneer player and it was great - no problem.

Thankyou Bj, I had never concidered this approach before.
I was brainlocked to the idea of Write Existing Data, being files or images on my hard drive.

Re: CloneCD hangs PC with PX-750A and DVD+R DL

I guess it's my frugal nature, but I always burn to hard drive first, to lessen the chances of ruining a disk. Gives me a chance to preview what I have, before commiting.
Before I got my BenQ's I used an Aopen drive that refused to burn with CloneDVD2, but worked great with Nero. After blowing a bunch of disks trying to get it to work, I got into the habit of starting off with Clone, then finishing off with Burning Rom.
I enjoy learning all of the features of my software though, as it gives me a better overall understanding.
(sorry for getting off topic)

rolling56,

Pushing play for verification isn't always possible. For one thing it will take hours to check the whole disk that way. Another problem is that the backups aren't necessarily for movies, but also data discs. It would be a really useful option to have.

I run different tests for my discs and watching the finished dvd movie is one of them. You can run tests on the disc all day long but if the finished product doesn't work when needed, well then you just wasted your day. Right? Best test for data disc is to try to move it to hdd then you will see errors if they are there. Use good quality discs and you should not have a problem. If your backing up hdd use Acronis True Image(on separate hdd of course). Works great! I assumed you knew how to test data discs.

Re: CloneCD hangs PC with PX-750A and DVD+R DL

rolling56,

DVD burners don't have error checking built-in during burns. Just because a burned disc is readable doesn't mean its content is identical to the source.
Indeed, the burned disc needs to be read back and compared with the original. However, when using the on-the-fly copy option, there is no original to compare to. The burning software needs to hash the original as it reads it, then read the burned disc after it's done, and compare the hashes.
CloneCD doesn't do any verification while doing on-the-fly copy, unfortunately.

Testing programs are over rated.............Real world environment will tell you what you want to know.
