CloneCD Does Not Like My DVD Burner

The version is up to date (5.2.6.1) running on an XP SP2 box. The program will read from any DVD-9 disc with no problems, but when writing it does not recognize the burner's ability to burn a DVD-9 disc, which generates the following error message:
Not enough space on the target medium!
Space required 7795 MBytes
Space Available: 4482 MBytes
The burner in question is an external MagicSpin IDVD16DDBE (model #: DVDRW 1016ui manufactured: 09/2005).

I receive the same results with CloneDVD2 2.8.5.1, which will also read DVD-9 discs from this drive with no problems, but will produce the following similar error when trying to write:
Writing to video media was not successful:
source data too large
This writer is not capable of writing the source data as requested.
To write these files...
Details: WriteDVD 14 W2
I can burn single layer DVDs with no problems and I can also burn DVD-9 discs using Nero 6.6.0.8 without incident using the same Memorex DVD+R DL blanks. Aside from the obvious and costly solution, any suggestions on how to make my current burner work? Thanks in advance.

Re: CloneCD Does Not Like My DVD Burner

I am experiencing similar problems with a refurbished plextor 716A where I already have a lite on burner installed and it works fine with DVD Xcopy Platinum but the new install with the Plextor won't. Reads ok but won't work with the shrink software. Have a friend having a similar problem with a Sony 810U also purchased from Tiger Direct. At first I thought I had a defective drive but returned it and re-installed a new one and have the same problem. Did I get 2 defective units in a row or is there another explanation?
