I have made several successful backups using the old SafeDisc 2 profile from here and the latest CloneCD.

Thanks

I know this is the CloneCD forum, but anyway. I've made a succesfull backup of MoHAA Spearhead (great game) with Alcohol 120%, version 1.3.5 build 1125. Spearhead is also Safedisc 2.80.010. I'm going to try with CloneCD 4.2.0.2 later.

Hi maverick72 re settings

If you use the latest clone cd 4.2.0.2 use the protected game profile.

Open clone cd choose Copy cd, select youre Plextor,at the next screen highlight Protected Pc Game.
When reading is complete chose youre plex to write, adjust youre write speed to 8 and not forgetting to highlight Protected Pc Game.

I can confirm that Clone CD 4.2.0.2 will do working 1:1 copies of Safedisk 2.8. They even work without the Hide CDR media from the task bar enabled.

I have just backed up Spearhead and Civilization 3 Play the World, my drives are as follows.

Liteon LTD163 DVD Rom
LG 8160B Writer

These backups were made using the clone CD Protected PC Game profile.

Well done Olli.

You guys are forgetting that the LIte-on's deal with safedisc alot better than plextors. Lite-Ons are known to succeed where the plex drives failed. I think you will not have much luck with your plex cracking 2.8 or above.

Hi FlyingDutchman,
I post this only to say I've made a sucessfull backup of Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets with the last CloneCD and the old SD2 profile.
I use o toshiba 1612 as reader and a Plextor 12/10/32A as writer (of with AWS enabled).
The backup works in my two drives without any need of 'Hide CDR media'.

Hi FlyingDutchman

Being a proud owner of a liteon I would hve to agree with youre theory.
I have made plenty of successful 1:1s and my liteon has never struggled with safedisc.

Sorry but there is no setting which allows to burn safedisc 2.80 or above with clonecd .

It is olli stuff to improve clonecd .

If some clone cd backups above 2.8 work it is only luck not cd writer performance .

maverick72,

I had the same thing happen to me. Disc 1 of FIFA 2003 worked fine with CloneCD using the "Data" Profile, as there is no protection on the 1st disc.
Disc 2 is where Safedisc 2.8 hides. I haven't used CloneCD for this disc yet, but I used the DDump+FireBurner method that has been talked about often in other threads.

Hi, CJS & maverick72

Have you tried using a different drive to install and play the game? sometimes with safedisc you need to install and play youre game not using youre writer.

I did exactly that. I also have a Liteon DVD drive LTD 166 and I do all my installing (with any program or game) using this drive. I only use my writer for reading/writing but I don't use it (never have) to install stuff.

The DDump+Fireburner worked fine for the backup, just like it did with Need for Speed HP2. I need to buy more CDRs before I start 'experimenting' with other methods, as the "Coaster Count TM" will no doubt start to increase!

Hi CJS

I would first like to say that if the 1st disc of FIFA 2003
had no protection then I would have used the GAME CD profile that is with clone cd, and not the data profile that you say you used.
For the 2nd disc that you say as safedisc 2.8 I would use the PROTECTED PC GAME profile.

I have made a backup of Medal of honour spearhead ( 2.80.010) yesterday using nothing more than clone cd and the profiles.

I too have a liteon dvd drive.

Is youre aspi installed correctly??

Jellybelly, thanks for helping.

I would say that my ASPI is ok because I have NEVER had an issue with it. I use forceaspi (ASPI 4.6) without a prob.
The only reason I used the "Data" profile for the 1st disc, is because the "Game" profile Amplifies Weak Sectors when burning. As my burner is a "2 Sheep" burner, I've read in other threads that this is a no no.
As soon as I get meself some new CDRs, I will try CloneCD's "Protected PC Game" profile with FIFA 2003. I'll let you and the rest of this thread know as soon as I do!

Thanks again

Just a quick question:

Does it matter about which CDRs are used for safedisc or securom? Does one brand work better than the other? I remember backing up Playstation One games, and everyone swore to use Mitsui Gold. At the moment, I use Princo 80min.

Just throwing some ideas your way!! ... again!!

Thanks
