civ 4 backup

I am trying to load my civ 4 onto a my hard drive. I can use clonecd to make an image. I can install from the images using virtual clonedrive. When I try to run the game from the images after the install it says disk in not present. When I put in the original cd into the cd drive I can play the game. I want to avoid using the cd because the kids will put their dirty hands on them. Any suggestions.

Re: civ 4 backup

If you want to run the game from an image mounted on a virtual drive, uninstall Virtual Clone Drive and try either alcohol 52% or Daemon Tools. Note that you should install the game from the mounted image and you may need something like sd4hide to run the game from the image.

Re: civ 4 backup

Using virtual clone drive and sd4hide seems to work ok. I noticed that hide cdr media is not supposed to be an available option in the usa. Why do I have access to it. Am I just lucky?

Re: civ 4 backup

^ I presume that the disc is a cd rather than a dvd. If so, read errors are normal for a safedisc protected cd (it's part of the copy protection ). Just be patient and let the reading process continue. The reading process will speed back up after the first ~10,500 sectors or so (generally about the first 3-5% of the disc).
