Current version (sd 2.8) does check pre-gap but is defeated by emulation methods used by alcohol, clonecd (usually for Asus and some Lite-on writers) and blindwrite (sometimes).

To find out whether your reader/writer can accurately read the pre-gap, try copying a sd 2.8 protected cd with dj using the settings set out above. Since dj doesn't use any form of emulation, if the copy works, your reader can read the pre-gap accurately (or at least it did so in the case of that particular cd).

Well, no wonder well need luck if we use a Lite-On CDRW as a reader, accoring to here, the Lite-Ons dont support RAW Read. So does that mean that all the joy of finding out that my crappy Creative was actually a Lite-On is now non-existant if I wish to backup SafeDisc 2.9 (without extra software updates).

Also, I doubt that Lite-On would update thier firmware for anything as old as the 24102B drives.

actually they only updated the 24102b firmware a few months ago.

forgive me if i'm wrong but doesn't clone cd use raw read! to extract an image file. Now if the litey couldn't raw read then it would not be compatible with clone cd am i right

What Padus means by raw reading is something other than what is generally understood to be raw reading. There is some kind of explanation on their site which you can check out for yourself (I can't say that it made all that much sense to me

Why cant all the marketing people (if they are the ones who came up with the different meanings) get togehter and make an agreement where they all agree on something, so RAW to Padus means the same as RAW to Elby?

I have succeded in copying MOHAA Spearhead (SD 2.80.10) at last. Like I wrote in the thread 'Is CloneCD beginning its downfall ?' it only worked partially with CloneCD (It worked in Win ME and W2K but not in Win XP). I succeded burning the game with Alcohol and Discjuggler. Both copies was read and written with a Lit-on 52246S. I guess the Discjuggler copy is the best since it copies the Pre-gap.

By the way before succeding I tried to read the game in Discjuggler with my Tosh DVD 1401, Lite-on DVD 166S and Sony DRU500A but all of those copies failed. So I guess the newest Lite-on burner reads the pre-gap after all...

Thanks to all that helped on both threads.
