Clone CD Discuss, Acer 1610A & Black and White at Burning Software forum; I copied Black & White with my acer 1610a but it only plays in my toshiba smd 1212 dvd, not in my 50X asus cdrom. I am thinking that I am not using the right clone settings when reading. I checked FES, but should set the # of retires and error

FES is the only thing you need to enable... It shouldn't matter how many read retries you use. But then: why doesn't the back-up work in your Asus CD-ROM ? Well I don't know.. I do know that the quality of the back-ups created with an Acer may vary with different media. Please give us some more info: used CloneCD version, media, write speed, etc.

I started with clone v3.0.9.1 and now have upgraded to v3.1.0.0. I have been using sony, verbatim cdr and cdrw, maxell and gigastorage media. I tried reading/writing at max 4/4 4/8 8/8. I have flashed my burner to the lastest firmware GOK.

Thanks Da Bull

I saw you also posted this in the CloneClinic forum (good idea to post your question on more forums!) and one guy said it might just be the Asus CD-ROM which is dodgy when it comes to playing SafeDisc 2 protected games... Could very well explain why the back-up does work in your Tosh (it's simply a better reader).

My mentor, and good friend Weaseman copied B&W with his Acer 1208A, and it does play in my asus cdrom. He can not recall what clone settings he used to do this. He now has the Liteon 24102B, it copies B&W with FES checked, retires and error correction set at default. The copy from the Liteon 24102B, plays in my asus cdrom! So which leads me to believe its not the asus, but some setting in clone is not right.

Thanks Da Bull

I am reliably informed that it's media dependent in the Asus. I've checked my gear & Max Payne works in my Asus CD-S360 on Ricoh Gold but not on a Princo.

Nope the settings are right. They should work... The ASUS is really media-dependant like FutureProof also said. The copies of your friend, were they written on different media brands than your copy?

I did it

Success at last! Burnt in my burner, plays in my ASUS cdrom. FES checked, three retries, and error correction set to hardware. I am pulling your leg on this post. I did copy Black and White, but with my new liteon 24X10X40 burner. I sold my Acer 1610a. Acer just can't cut the mustard.

I think you made a good decision to buy the Liteon. Hope it will give you loads of quality back-ups!
