I think you're out of luck with your MSI. From CDRLabs review of the drive:

Quote:
CloneCD's drive information screen gives a good idea of what types of discs the drive can read and write. Unfortunately, the MS-8348A cannot do the EFM encoding needed for CloneCD to reproduce copy protections like SafeDisc. I was able to make backups of some of the older SafeDisc 2 protected games like Max Payne without any problems. However, newer titles protected by SafeDisc 2.51 like Serious Sam: The Second Encounter were not playable in all drives, even with AWS enabled.
The only option you have left is to emulate the weak sectors. Read and write with the Protected PC Game Profile and when playing the back-up (from either a CD-ROM or CD-Recorder), enable Hide CDR Media in the CloneCD-tray. That should do the trick hopefully. Good luck!

Don't know if this will help.

I've got a Cyberdrive CW068D, 36x12x48x. Like your MSI drive it has an Oak Technologies chip and uses ExacLink buffer underrun protection.

I've made working backups of MOHAA. I used Safedisc2 AWS. Being in the USA I needed to install AWS patch for CloneCD first. Anyway, I burned an image and confirmed it with Daemon Tools. Then I burned a CDRW and this too worked. Game installs and plays. Safedisc emulation is not needed. However the CDRW copies are tempermental. They work fine in the Cyberdrive (Hide CDR is not needed). They also work in an old HP writer and a Compaq OEM reader. They don't work at all in a Toshiba and LG CDROM.

This was with CDRWs. However, whenever I tried to burn CDRs I got nothing but coasters (apparently). Over the months I've tried firmware updates, CloneCD updates, different media but still nothing but coasters.

This is how things stood when I gave up trying to make a CDR backup of MOHAA. Afterall, I had my backup. It was just on CDRW.

About a month ago I was testing an Artec DVDROM. To my surprise, my former MOHAA coasters worked in this drive.

So what am I trying to say?

1. If you are in the USA (Japan and I don't know where else)install the AWS patch to Cloneced and use the Safedisc 2 AWS profile.

2. Confirm your image with Daemon Tools (or I guess CloneCD now has a Virtual CDROM as well).

3. Try burning CDRWs and see if these work.

4. When you get to CDRs try a variety of media. Taiyo Yuden manufactured discs (Fuji are common in the USA) work best for me. Try testing your backups in more than one reader. They might work in one drive but not another. Don't spend much effort or money on CDRs for an MOHAA backup, especially if you manage to get a working CDRW backup.

Finally, if your writer is anything like mine, spotty backups are the best you are going to do.

Again, the Alcohol option...deary me. Lookup 'Groupthink' in your psychology dictionary. Answer the question or don't post in this thread and ones like it. G@M3FR3@K answered the question accurately - you have nothing to add...?

Ive gotta agree with Futureproof Alcohol ain't the only solution for everything. Many different programs seem to share there own speciality but rarely is one the only savour *remembers clonecd days....of last year*
