Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

I lost my drives after ImgBurn install. I could see the drives in "my computer" but they would not read or write. I had to do a system recovery to get them back.

I have to blame ImgBurn and all was fine before the install and when I recovered to day before all was ok once more.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

Really? I cannot believe that.

More likely another 3rd party software installed went berzerk when Imgburn wanted to be installed - my theory.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

When imgBurn came up with the box: "ImgBurn is intended to replace DVD Decrypter for burning disc images. Would you like to remove the old 'Burn using DVD Decrypter' file associations? (Note: You'll have nice new 'Burn using imgBurn' ones now!)

I said yes

After that I could not burn with Nero or ConvertXtoDVD, or read with WinDVD?

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

Sorry to hear that you had problems with your machine and imgburn.
I have installed it on a number of machines without any problems for some time, as has thousands of people. It looks likely that it is specific to your machine and as suggested I would look elsewhere for the cause.
Good luck in your searches.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

ImgBurn is in need of a simple 1 click interface > copy a DVD, copy a file to DVD. Too many options when trying to do something simple. IE ImgBurn Express.

I would post this problem at the Imgburn forum to see if it may be a bug that needs addressing. LUK is usually receptive to such problems.

Good idea LOCOENG but I think we would have heard about this sooner if it was a bug in the program. This version has been out for awhile now. I think it is most likely a conflict with another program.

I would start with any emulating program you may have installed. Thats the first place I look when I find a problem like this.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

As ImgBurn is just a single exe file it's impossible for it to kill anything (except itself). If you've not specifically loaded it yourself, it's not running - in any way, shape or form.

If your drives have vanished it's some lower level filter/device driver causing the issue. If they're claiming they no longer have the ability to burn to certain media, again that's a filter/device driver issue where they're manipulating the REAL return codes from the drive.

So in short, it's nothing to do with ImgBurn.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

what I am saying that 4 times I installed ImgBurn and 4 times one or both drives would no longer read or write, the last time even system restore would not recover drive functions and I had to remove the drive and then reinstall the drive. Since that was the only program installed ImgBurn must of had some kind of effect. In each case I made a retore point prior to intall of ImgBurn. Nero, ConvertXtoDVD, CloneDVD2, DVDfab all work fine.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

I to have had an experience with IMGBURN.
When I installed it at home, it obviosly has issues with virtual drives, as Daemon tools sorta flaked out, as now I cant use some of my games that have iso on the backup to load the games anymore, worked perfect prior to the install of IMGBURN. NO I didnt set a restore point, so even after an uninstall they still no worky. lol

MNaybe there will be a fix for it to be compatable with virtual drives, if that is what it turns out to be for everyone..

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

Seriously, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Copying an exe to a folder on your hdd is NOT going to break your drives - end of story.

I also run 4 virtual drives 24/7 without any problem.

any suggestions to what may of happened then? not trying to bash the program, as I like it just fine, and recommend it to anyone needing a good program. Seen another person with similair problems, figured I would post about my issues sorta like his.

Sorry if you found this insulting, as that was not the intent.

Re: Lost my drives after ImgBurn install

Have you tried updating your virtual drive program?

The SPTD driver that many of them use has it's own fair share of issues. If you don't keep both updated you stand to run into many of them.

If you have an actual issue with ImgBurn - as in when you're actually using the program/have it open, please tell me about it.

If you have issues with drives and things when ImgBurn isn't even running, you NEED to look elsewhere for the cause. It can't possibly be anything to do with ImgBurn.
