Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

First, I want to say I think ImgBurn is a great application--particularly for advanced users.

I guess I am not that advanced.

I have noticed that if you use v.2.2's Read at default settings to create a duplicate of a disc previously burned with CD-DVD Speed's create disc and added text data to record the burner and the burn curve, all this is copied onto the duplicate as well. Just for everyone's information(not a complaint). I think this can be avoided using ImgBurn's settings.

I used the previous versions 2.0 and 2.1 without major problems with my LG H12N, burning probably about 30 discs, mostly video backups.
However, I must be goofing up big when I use it with my LH-20A1P, because I have already created two coasters. Both times the program, the drive, and my whole system get hung severely during the leadin. I'm not implying it's ImgBurn, it could be the Lite-ON or it could be me. But each time it coastered, I switched and used ImgBurn to burn the image with the LG--No Problemo.
So I guess what I am saying is that if you are rookie like me, this program is not for the timid hearted.
Thanks, Lightning: I will continue to use the program because I am not the timid kind when it comes to trying out new software.

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

The data CD-DVD Speed adds to the disc is just part of the disc. It modifies the actual data so you'll never have a true 1:1 copy because there will always be that little bit extra shoved on the end.

As ImgBurn does what it's supposed to (read the whole disc), the data it reads will of course include the bit stuck on the end too.

As with any I/O stuff, when drives/drivers misbehave, the whole system grinds to a halt. I would guess that your LG just likes the discs you're using better than the LiteOn does, or that the LiteOn has other issues with it's firmware.

I've not noticed any issues with the 18x LiteOn drives.

Great Software! I even donated and I am not one who usually does that. Perhaps this is the wrong place to ask but...is it possible to allow WindowsXP Home "Limited Users" access the burner? I installed Nero burning rights to allow myself to do this but is there an even easier way?

I agree with you about Img Burn. Great proggy. I do not know of a way to limit use of a burner to only 1 user on XP Home. Maybe someone else can answer that definatively.

I'm having problems with this version making coasters on my Pioneer DVR-108 and ANY media. Most often used lately is:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108 1.20 (ATA)
Current Profile: DVD+R

Disc Information:
Status: Empty
Erasable: No
Free Sectors: 2,295,104
Free Space: 4,700,372,992 bytes
Free Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x

Physical Format Information (ADIP):
Disc ID: SONY-D21-00
Book Type: DVD+R
Part Version: 1
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,491,711
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Disc ID: SONY-D21-00
Book Type: DVD+R
Part Version: 1
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
Number of Layers: 1

It will burn 3 or 4 discs with no problem then hang about 75%-80% finished. No error code most of the time - it just sits there. Sometimes it does give an error stating something about device error with a long string of numbers xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx etc...

Using NERO or UltraISO I can burn 30 in a row with no coasters ever. With ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 I have to shut down and reboot.

Any ideas?

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

This program is just getting better and better! Thanks LIGHTNING_UK!!

Quote:
Added: 'Read' mode for basic (sector by sector) creation of images direct from a cd/dvd.
Nice!

Quote:
Added: An 'AUTO' write speed where you can now have custom write speeds for individual media types/dyes on a drive by drive basis. You can also use things like 'CD-R', 'DVD-R', 'DVD+R' etc.
I really like this new feature - I find it extremely useful and very flexible!

Quote:
Added: Build mode now has the ability to look for and optimise duplicate files so that only 1 copy of that file actually exists in the ISO/on the disc.
I've been using a similar feature in UltraISO in order to consolidate weekly backups with most files being unchanged, so this should come in real handy!

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've been using Roxio 8 EZ DVD Media Creator to burn iso's, with good success. Are there any benefits to using this over Roxio's engine?

On a similar note, I've also created iso data images using Roxio 8. Are there added benefits to using DVD Decrypter instead to create iso's.?

Thanks!

Never got on well with Roxio... I'd think anything would be an improvement IMHO!

The biggest benefit would have been before you purchased Roxio. Imgburn is free.

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

I have always favored nero since it likes me(jk) and I had a hard time with build mode and not using the video_ts folder for my shrink output

after changing the build settings to
don't prompt image details
ditto video ts content and volume label/answer yes

pop a dvd in, point imgburn to the folder and click burn
bingo, that's easier than nero

I don't like to autoburn as I like to check my compressed/authored product before committing to dvd

iso's are too much hassle

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

Had a quick question about IMGBurn read mode. Under settings and under "read" there is the option to set read speed. Is there a best option instead of MAX?

If you get a lot of read errors then you can use less than Max. Readers tend to adjust their speed based on media and recording quality anyway.

I dont think Ive gotten any read errors that I can recall.

So leaving it at max won't effect the quality of the ISO?

There is no "best" speed to read a disc. Reading speed has no influence on data integrity.

You can rip a disc at 1x or at 20x, but copied files will be identical.

Only a damaged cable or a damaged controller can introduce errors in files.

Also a defective driver can introduce errors, but again the ripping speed has no influence on data integrity.

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

If you don't want to rip at a slower speed (and this will require a longer time to complete the job) for some reason, max is the best choice in my opinion. Bear in mind that if for some reason the drive is not able to read the disc at max speed (because of scratches on the disc for example), it will slow automatically the reading

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

Ok thank you. Just to clarify if I set the read speed to something like 8X would it try to read at 8X or simply read at a safe speed?

In fact inder IMGBurn settings the check for setting read speed is not selected by default so I believe it is on MAX.

Thanks.

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

Setting options as shown in pic, ImgBurn will read at max speed.

If you set, for example, 8x the drive should read the disc up to 8x max.

Ah thank you.

So would you leave it unchecked or set it at a certain speed? Im not real worried about how fast it reads, just in making sure I get the readable ISO.

Re: ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 is out.

I was just testing my two drives to check read speed. I have a BenQ1620 and LiteOn H6S, they both should read at 16X right?

I tested them with read speed set at 16X, MAX, and 8X.

When I set the BenQ1620 to 16X and started reading, it prompted me I selected 16X while actual read speed will be 8X. On all three settings the BenQ reached a max read of 8X, and an average of 5.5 for all three reads. Shouldnt it be reading at 16X?

As for the LiteOn tested it on all three settings as well. It prompted me that actual read speed would be 12.1. However, on all three settings it topped out at 8.2 and averaged 5.7.

Is this right? Or is something amiss?
