Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

I only have HD-DVD (allthough I'm thinking of getting a ps3 if theres a cheap boxing day sale), and I watched Superman The Movie, it looked pretty good, but the film itself was a little grainy.

Before that it was probably Transformers, The GF just bought the National Lampoons XMAS vacation so I'll have to give that a watch.

Yesterday I watched Underworld: Evolution in Blu-ray on my new Hanns·G HG-216DPO 21.6" 5ms Widescreen HDMI LCD Monitor

All I can say is WOW!

Seabiscuit, I don't know what it is about that movie but I can watch it over and over again. It is almost all outdoors and that is a plus with HD. Was a great book too.

Watching BlackHawk Down right now on my new Samsung 1400 hooked up to the Samsung 46 inch LCD. Wow, this is better than the Big Screen.

Yeah I really want to watch that series but the $90.00 price tag for the set keeps stopping me. Maybe Santa will put one under the tree for me.

Thanks I may have to go that route.

@ zevia. How was Eight Below? Reason I ask is I watched Tears of the Sun last night and it had a lot of places where it seemed blurry around peoples heads. I see that once in a while with normal DVD's that are up converted. The quality was ok but not great.

Many people don't realize that Blockbuster Online also carries HD DVDs. I got Ocean's Thirteen and Inside Man from them.

Hey crossg, the video quality is great, audio quality is also fine.

ricoman, I thought blockbuster only supplies blu-ray? at least that's the case with two stores in my area.

The stores only carry Bluray and only a few stores at that. But Blockbuster Online (mail-in) carries HD DVDs too. You can return them to the stores for regular DVDs if you want. It is part of the regular online service, no special sign up, included for the same price.

You know, it is pretty easy to find it for a bit cheaper. Keep an eye out for the periodic 20% off coupon that they release and you can get the set for less than $55 shipped.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

Anyways, the last HD title I watched was Mutiny on the Bounty. Amazing picture quality and clarity given the fact that the film was originally released in 1961. This is the area where I find that HD-DVD really flexes it's muscles in a practical manner. The difference on older movies is absolutely night and day between standard def and HD. Unfortunately this was via my 360 HD-DVD add on and the 360 itself had it's second hardware failure within 2 months. So I am selling the busted 360 and the 360 HD-DVD drive and replacing it with the standalone Toshiba A3 which should be here before Christmas. Will let you folks know how it turns out.

The World's Fastest Indian, excellent indie movie. True story about this old New Zealander (Anthony Hopkins) who soups up his 50 year old Indian motorcycle and dreams about coming to America to run it on the Bonneville Great Salt Flats. Well worth checking out if you can find it.

I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh at this. The concept of a well directed and special effects porn movie seems ludicrous to me as that is not the point of the film.

"Roy Orbison, A Black and White Night" (HD-DVD)

This is a must-have for music fans. The band is an all-celebrity wonder, the music is hot and the TrueHD audio is stunning.

I haven't seen that in forever. I had it on VHS but after a few moves i have no idea where it is. It's in black and white IIRC?
