That seems to be common among the fox releases.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

Just picked up Twister on Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Dolby True HD. PQ is great and if you want to test out your HD audio, crack the drywall, rumble the house and piss off the neighbours this is the movie for you. Sounds great!!!

This is of course assuming you have an HD audio setup.

Yeah that didn't come across quite right. It will probably give any setup a good work out.

Golden Compass Bluray. PQ was no better than a regular DVD on an upconverting player. Disappointing. Movie was OK for kids.
Best PQ I've seen so far has been Casino Royale BD, doesn't get better than that.

I just watched Golden Compass on BD and thought the PQ was pretty good. Audio (DTS HD Master 7.1) was certainly above my expectations.
And yeah Casino Royale is probably reference PQ material.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

I just used my $50 BB gift card to order the HD-DVD version of Planet Earth. Only paid $3.86 out of pocket for it (tax and shipping) when all was said and done. Not too bad considering the card was essentially a partial refund for a great deal on my A3 to begin with.

Watched Untraceable on BD. Sony Pictures, Dolby True HD. PQ was ok as was the movie.
Also picked up Chronicles of Narnia on BD but haven't watched it yet.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

Just finished the series. Well worth the purchase to have that, especially since it cost me almost nothing (purchased with the free $50 Best Buy gift card that I got for purchasing my HD-DVD player).

National Treasure 2: PQ very good; Sound excellent; Movie Ok, if you saw the first one, you saw this. Way to predictable and got tired of Nicholas Cage solving puzzles in 10 secs. flat. Not to mention the plot. SPOILER HERE, TURN AWAY a gold pyramid underneath Mount Rushmore! C'mon!

Had you posted that yesterday you probably would have saved me $32.00. Oh well.

I think I reviewed the non-HD version of this movie in the other "What was the latest movie you've watched" thread in the living room.

The 5th Element. don't watch this is HD ... the scenes, and props, look like tacky plastic & views look quite cartoonish. It'll ruin it the whole movie for you.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

I have the Fifth Element in pretty much every optical version it came out in and I'd have to say it looks stunning in HD. The props and things for a lot of it are cartoonish, tacky, and plastic. I think it was kinda a comic book way to look at the future and besides, it had a whole sense of humor about itself through the whole thing with a kinda serious subject, probably one of the reasons it a cult classic now and a reference movie for both video and audio as well.

Make sure you didn't get the first batch that came out if you are talking about BD. Click. The version I have looks pretty good.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

It's not a problem with the encoding ... it is the movie.
Some scenes are absolutely spectacular .. like .. Wow .. (typical HD response) .. but the suits & the surrounds, particularly the spaceship controls & etc ... just look .. like cheap plastic sets ...

Which given the current trend in manufacturing is probably what they will be anyway

You made me watch it again and look a litlle closer. You are right.

Also just noticed that this movie is in both Uncrompressed PCM and Dolby TrueHD. Wonder why they would use two lossless Audio formats? Guess this would be a good movie to compare the two format differences.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

I was bored and watched Patriot blu-ray last night. Got it as one of the free 5 blu-ray from PS3 purchase many months ago. The other 4 movies are still sealed. Good video and audio quality btw.

Re: What was the last Blu-ray and HD DVD movie you watched?

Power Dvd Ultra 8 will not give you the full hd sound that you get from a stand alone Blu-Ray player. It's hard to tell the difference,it's like 1505 kbps vs 640 kbps. The pc doesn't have the protection standards for audio,so PDVD ultra 8 has to cut the sound back a bit, until the pc comes up with better protection standards.I read this in the letter that comes with the software. The 640 kbps is louder and crisper than the 448 kbps you get with Dolby Digital 5.1
