It has been suggested that this "extension" is nothing more than Warner forcing the HD releases to be 6 weeks after the BD release of the same title. So it would not really be an extension, since no new title releases were added.

Yeah, but there is also another rumor that claims that it coincides with a given date at which Warner will re-evaluate the market and make a determination with what they are going to do.

So you think that in May/June, Warner will re-evaluate if they are going to continue supporting HD DVD or exclusive to Blu-ray only? I think they cannot decide it in just a few days beforehand but it would be at least a few months for them to make the titles in mass quantity. So as CDan said, new title releases is a good indicator.

I don't think we're going to see ANY kind of HD titles in "mass quantity". that's the problem. Consumers aren't embracing either format "en masse", making the fact of 2 formats even more painful for the sellers.

Only time will tell.

CDan does have a point there. Then again prices on the A3 keep creeping closer and closer to that magical $100 price-point which will make things pretty interesting over the next few months.
