DivX players what will do HD?

I'm new to the HD sections of the Forum--I mostly stick to DVD topics. So, I'm not sure if this is the proper sub-forum for this question. If not, will one of the moderators direct this post better?

I'm the happy new owner of a 47" 1080p LCD TV that I'm very much starting to like. What I would like to do is to be able to watch 1080p content encoded as Divx files. Are there any players that will do HD resolution DivX files?

Failing this, I'm going to finally break down and build that HTPC I've been meaning to build for a few years, now.

Thanks, everyone.

Never heard of one but I suppose the industry will get there eventually.

Re: DivX players what will do HD?

I believe there are some standard DVD player that can do DivX Ultra at 1080p. One for example:
Philips DVP5982/37 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882641222

If you're looking at Blu-ray player with DivX, you will have to wait for Panasonic. Their press release announced that they will release DivX certified Blu-ray player (but only in Europe and Russia at the moment.)

Alternatively, PS3 can do Divx.

Another player to consider.

Helios - A couple of links for ya.

Then of course you could pipe it to your T.V. from your P.C.

An article for you to look at just to give you some ideas.

Can't the PS3 do Divx?

Yes it can do Divx but not Xvid if I'm not mistaken.

Nope, that only does normal res Divx, but it'll upscale *that* to 1080p--which my TV does, anyway. So, no go with that one. Yeah, I thought it did, but after buying it, realized it doesn't.

I would rather spoon my eyeballs out than give Sony a penny. Personal belief.

Thanks, though.

Ahh, good reading, thanks! I was hoping for something in the sub $100 category, but that's starting to look less and less likely--for a stand alone player. The HTPC is gaining ground.
