What size HDTV do I need?

Hello Everyone,

I was reading Amazon's HD 101 and it said for high definition
you need a set at least 42 inches or higher.

I own a 32 inch Polaroid HDTV. Is this not big enough?? And if so
why do respected companies such as Sharp, Sony, etc. Make and sell
smaller HDTV's, even smaller than 32 inches.

Please help this makes no sense to me ??

Re: What Size HDTV //////

Panel size is not everything.

More counting is the native resolution and modes available.

Re: What Size HDTV //////

42" is generalized as the starting point for a full meal deal in which you can enjoy all the resolutions that HD has to offer. In your case 32" will not give you the full meal deal, however your T.V. supports 720P which is considered the entry level of HD.

Re: What size HDTV do I need?

This is what Amazon High-def 101 says as part of the discussion:
Quote:
Newer HDTV models support 1080p, but they may be more expensive than 720p or 1080i models. The advantages of the extra resolution you get with 1080p are most noticeable on screens 42 inches or larger. It allows you to sit closer than you could with a 720p set before you begin to see the individual pixels. On the other hand, HDTV programming (cable, over-the-air, satellite) maxes out at 1080i resolution. Still, if you anticipate using a high-def movie player or playing high-def video games, you may want to invest in a 1080p TV to have maximum flexibility with your system.
I think if you're room is not that big and/or you're not interested in 1080p --for example a second HDTV in your main bedroom for watching cable/news in the morning or before sleep-- then a screen size of 32 - 40" is just fine.
