| Digital TV Converter for digital channels? Can anyone recommend a stand alone digital TV converter. I understand here in the United States that in 3 years we will go to all digital reception. I'm looking for a digital TV converter that will enable to view the digital channels that are now being broadcast. No, I do not have a HDTV yet, but I am interested in receiving the extra content that the digital TV channels afford. Visiting my sister in law in Cincinatti over the holidays, I noticed that her local WCET 48 had more than one channel, as this was the case for some of the other local stations too. I was surprised that some of her fringe TV stations like WPTO channel 14 was crystal clear on its digital channel and yet the analog channel was non existant. I am aware that the satellite dish companies offer a digital tuner, but I'm just looking for a "Over The Air" converter stand alone to put on top of the TV. Thanks in advance. |

| Re: Digital TV Converter for digital channels? Samsung makes one, as do a few others. They are not cheap. You're looking for a "terestrial HDTV tuner". It's also available included into both DirecTV and Dish system HDTV receivers. You only need to add a separate off-air antenna to the satelite system to receive the off-air digital channels. The cost of a stand-alone HDTV receiver is almost the same as for a satellite HDTV system. Of course, you would have to subscribe to satellite service to get the receiver activated. |
