3 input HDMI switcher available from Gefen

Oddly, I was just looking for sucha thing the other day and now I get a mail about it. My HDCP compliant Panasonic plasma has interchageable inputs or blades. You can then configure the set wit up to 4 different inputs plus a PC input. Unfortunatly, to my dismay, I think that it will not recognise more than one DVI blade in the set. I have a call in to Panasonic engineering and have been waiting on a response. In the meantime I began a search for a switcher as I have the need for at least 3 DVI inputs soon for this TV. One is my DVD player. One is my HTPC that I am building. I also have a satellite receiver with DVI. Anyways, here is a solution if I get bad news from Panasonic. I thought that maybe others building home entertainment centers might be interested in this as well.

Help has arrived for those wanting to connect satellite television, DVD players and digital video recorders to a single-HDMI input on an HDTV display. Gefen’s new 3x1 HDMI Switcher provides a simple, economical solution for connecting up to three HD audio/video sources to a single HDMI display.

The slim 3x1 Switcher box, acting as the interface between the sources and the display, allows the user to switch to his or her preferred source using the IR remote control that comes with the unit. Switching between sources takes place instantly with no lagging downtime or loss of quality.

Equipped with three HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, the Gefen 3x1 HDMI Switcher supplies an easy, plug and play method of accessing multiple sources. Setup requires nothing more than connecting all components and the HDTV display to the Switcher.

“The 3x1 HDMI Switcher provides an alternative to those who need to support more than two sources, but don’t plan to upgrade to four sources,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO.

“With more and more components being manufactured with HDMI connection, the 3x1 HDMI Switcher is built to support HD video well into the future.”

High definition video in resolutions up to 1080p is maintained together with digital audio in the same HDMI cable and connector. HDCP compliance is built into the unit.

The Gefen 3x1 HDMI Switcher (MSRP $299) is available online at Gefen.com or through an authorized Gefen reseller, also listed online.

If you're looking for an excuse to buy a new A-V receiver. the newest Yamaha flagship model has multiple HDMI imputs, plus upconverting from SVHS to component and to HDMI. I love my current Yamaha, but this one is tempting.
