Ultimate High Definition Setup - for $10k

Let's say you have $10.000 to spend on a HD home entertaiment. What would you buy?

$10k doesn't really come close to buying an "ultimate setup".

I don't even want to know what this would cost. Click. But I think it would qualify in an ultimate setup. Just a thought.

I know what you mean, I could spend $120,000 just in speakers.

But let's say that you have the constraints of only $10,000 dollars. What would you choose?

First we need to know if RexHunt was just aksing for opinions on products or is he going to put together a system? Room dimensions and preferences would be a good start.

$5k for projector and screen, $5k for AVR and speakers. This of course does not include the peripheral players and tuners and recorders.

Frankly, if you're looking at spending > $10k for a complete setup, you should be looking at the prices last. Speakers and projector/screen should be the first consideration, with the rest being fit into the budget as can.

My dream speakers

My dream AVR

Oops, I already spent the $10k. That's already 575 pounds of gear. :-0

Yes, you are correct we would need to know his angle.

O/T. I will start to cheer for them if they make it through the first round off playoffs. Not a big hockey fan.

Re: Ultimate High Definition Setup - for $10k

IMO, for some if not many people, 10K is more than enough to build a hi-def home theater system. Might not be an ultimate setup but still very nice for our eyes and ears.

For 10K, there will be many posibilites but let me try to (randomly) list a few available components in the price range:

HDTV or Projector
- Samsung FP-T5884 58" 1080P Plasma HDTV $3,500
- Panasonic TH-58Z750U 58" 1080P Plasma HDTV $4,700
- Panasonic TH-65Z750U 65" 1080P Plasma HDTV $6,500
- Panasonic TH-65PZ750U Professional 65" 1080p Plasma HDTV $6,500
- Panasonic PT-AE2000U 1080p High Definition Projector $3,000 (+ $500-$1,000 screen)

Blu-ray (DVD/CD) Players
Panasonic DMP-BD30 $499
Panasonic DMP-BD50 $500 (?) Available Summer 2008
PS3 40GB $400

Receiver
Onkyo TX-SR805 $750
Yamaha RX-V863 $899
Yamaha RX-V3800 $1,600

Speakers Klipsch
Main/Floor standing
2x Klipsch Reference Series RF-82 $500
2x Klipsch Reference Series RF-63 $900

Center
1x Klipsch Reference Series RC-62 $450

Bookshelf/surround
4x Klipsch Reference Series RB-81 $350
4x Klipsch Reference Series RB-61 $450
4x Klipsch Reference Series RS-62 $500

Subwoofer
1x Klipsch Reference Series RW-12d 350w $700

Speakers Polk Audio 7.1

Center
1x Polk Audio CSi A6 $400

Main/Floor Standing
2x Polk Audio RTi A7 $500
2x Polk Audio Rti A5 $400

Bookself/Surround
4x Polk Audio RTi A3 $300
4x Polk Audio RTi A1 $400

Subwoofer
1x Polk Audio DSW Pro600 250W $600

Others
Cables (audio, hdmi, optical, banana plugs, powersurge, etc) $500-$800
TV table: $300

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the above list we can surely build a good high definition setup for $10K, example:
- Samsung FP-T5884 58" 1080P Plasma HDTV $3,500
- Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player $499
- Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver $899
- Speakers Klipsch 7.1 $4,000
- Others: cables, tables etc
Re: Ultimate High Definition Setup - for $10k
Mine is probably at the higher end of low end but I am completely happy with the system and wouldn't change anything except maybe bought a PS3 vs my current BD player. (Hind sight is 20-20). Given a bigger veiwing area I would probably do some changes. Of course this is all based on my personal preference.
Samsung LN_T4671 LCD TV. $3100.00 (includes $400.00 extended warranty)
Samsung BD-P1400 BD player. $390.00
Toshiba A-35 HD-DVD Player. $175.00
Toshiba A-30 HD-DVD player. $100.00 (back up player)
Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver. $800.00
Polk Audio Montior 50 front speakers. $550.00
Polk Audio CS1 Center CH speaker. $225.00
Polk Audio Monitor 30 x 4 surround speakers. $500.00
Polk audio PSW110 Sub. $325.00
Motorola HD cable box. $300.00
Harnony 880 advanced Remote. $120.00
Total = $6585.00 + 5% tax = $6914.25 . Almost the same as CDan's dream AVR.
