| Re: Samsung sued over defective Blu-Ray players That's too bad for Samsung. It's interesting that the player in question is BD-P1200, which has mixed reviews on the net. I read from Amazon reviews that most of the problems are it can't playback many new Blu-ray titles (which has more protections implemented by the studios), and not a good player for scratched disc. Firmware updates also didn't help much. New player from Samsung is BD-P1400, I wonder if there's also issues? Get a PS3! ![]()

| Re: Samsung sued over defective Blu-Ray players Yap. ![]() But I think this is localized only for Samsung owners and particulary that model. I don't know the percentage but I would think it's minority compared to 6-8 million PS3 owners.

![]() Joke aside, as I don't have this player, but from what I read I think Samsung was really behind in firmware updates. From the lawsuit, BD+ protection was mentioned several times. It mentioned that owners were waiting for 8 weeks for a firmware update just to play a movie from Fox (maybe Fantastic 4). I know that BD+ is blu-ray thing but given other players play it right (and including my PS3 ) so I think it's a Samsung thing. Funny was, after the firmware update another movie was released a day or two after and the owners can't play it again. They need to get their updates quick to their customers! Nevertheless, I would really be careful and check professional reviews before buying one. This is the suit: http://www.courthousenews.com/2008/0...uRayNewark.pdf

The 1400 also has mixed reviews (not all of them BS fanboy ones either). It is better than the 1200 model but it still has issues. Even the latest firmware updates don't seem to help much from what I have read. As for getting a PS3, I have thought about it but I can't justify spending $400 on a player regardless of format (I really haven't found any game titles that interest me, unlike the PS2). Furthermore something about giving money to the inventor of the rootkits and Arccos protection makes me ultra nervous. I would not be surprised one bit if the Blu-Ray technology didn't become so DRM infested that the PS3 will be the only machine to be able to keep up. Then again maybe that's the way that Sony has wanted it all along so they can try to make money off of Blu-Ray and their game sales. Although I wish them luck on the latter. | |

| Re: Samsung sued over defective Blu-Ray players Yeah, but then again there are some people who have no issues whatsoever with Chinese made recordable media. There are success stories for just about anything. Consider yourself lucky. |

| Re: Samsung sued over defective Blu-Ray players As for being biased towards HD-DVD I will proudly admit to that and I have never denied that. As for the 1400, I'm glad that it works for you but I for one would certainly never recommend the player due to it's current cost and potential issues in the future. Despite my bias I don't have any problem recommending the PS3 or the latest Panasonic standalone to those who are dead set on buying a Blu-Ray player. ![]() |
