Playing SDDVDs from notebook to HDTV

I recently bought a slick new notebook that I'm generally very happy with now that I have the XP installed up & working.
This notebook has a DVI out so I can hook it into my HDTV
After working out a few bugs with PowerDVD I was able to play my first HDDVD that being Blade Runner, this played great w/o a hang or glitch. Sometime latter I attempted to play Charade (The Criterion Collection) SDDVD from my notebook & for some reason I notice a fair amount of almost avi like video latency in a number of scenes involving moderate movement. I attempted to play in both Nero Showtime & VLC player, both were likewise flawed. I ended up loading this in my MVIX player & the movie played fine. The movie also seems to play likewise faulty on the notebook monitor. I've been trying to google this & have been coming up dry. I have the latest ATI drivers modified to work with XP.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I can use the MVIX player for now but was considering selling it since I have this notebook now...

How did you connect the Mvix to your HDTV? DVI, component?

I connected to both the notebook & Mvix with the same DVI connection/cable.
