Using External enclosures with IDE DVD Writers - Club CDFreaks

What does everyone think about those USB2/1394 external enclosures that basically make any internal drive an external one? I want an external drive to use with my laptop, but the NEC D-2500A is only $82 on newegg, so I thought about putting it in one of those enclosures. Would this create any problems with vibration or anything? Are they stable enough for burning?

I don't have one but from comments it seems to work. the standard seems to be get a combo USB 2.0/firewire and get one that uses the oxford 911. I assume that's still the chipset to get.

I think the Bytec uses the 911.

I have a NEC ND-2500A in an external enclosure. It's working perfectly for me. Even the firmware-updater (for windows) recognizes the drive and is able to flash it correctly.

I can't recommend any specific enclosure, since I just re-used the one that came with my 'old' USB2.0 AOpen 52x cd writer. I simply put the NEC in it, but it doesn't fit entirely, so the case is rather instable, but tht doesn't matter much to me since I don't usually move it.
