External Enclosures Discuss, please recommend a USB2 enclosure for BenQ 1640 at CD and DVD Burners forum; Why? Because I want to use it with my laptop. And as many of you are BenQ oracles I thought you might have first hand experience yourself. I've read that max power output is a concern to achieve 8x - 16x speeds . I'd prefer one that uses wall power

please recommend a USB2 enclosure for BenQ 1640

Why? Because I want to use it with my laptop. And as many of you are BenQ oracles I thought you might have first hand experience yourself. I've read that max power output is a concern to achieve 8x - 16x speeds. I'd prefer one that uses wall power instead of sapping power from the USB 2.0 port. I also have a firewire port. An enclosure with USB & firewire would be fine, too, just not firewire only.

This is for a toshiba (PC).

thanks!

First of all we need to know detailed specifications of your "toshiba" lappy.

And you can start checking out this thread.

BTW, why start a new thread... you already have one here

Hmm, it is borderline crossposting. SuperMediaScam, you really should have bumped your old thread with this post. I'll close the old one and let this thread continue.

You can't power an optical drive from USB anyway, I have never seen an portable optical drive that only used USB power.

I'm thinking about trying this one:

50w power supply looks nice and they list the drives it is supposed to be compatible with. I have not used it, but I think I am going to order one to test out.
