These deals are often in-store only. And involve mail-in-rebates. Basically, unless you're living in the US with a OfficeMax near by and with lots of time to kill doing the rebate hassle, these will be out of your each.

this deal and another one for a nec1100a (maybe i saw that posted on [H]ard forums [H]ot deals) are because cendyne is dead and they are clearancing the drives. not all OM stores will have these drives. but if they do you get something pretty cheap. the 1100a i saw was somewhere in the $40's i think.

i did see that 4x memorex +rw (phillips i think) 25 pks are clearanced at 29.99 right now.

and i don't think so as far as international. you might all just need to move 2 the US. land of the free after rebate and home of the brave.

you would need to find a store that has one and see if you can arrange for them to ship it.

good luck

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! Finally got a chance to test the drivers from mapower, they work fine (at least for reading, I expect writing to work as well). Haven't done any real speed tests yet, but I just copied an Office 2000 CD to the hard drive from it (using the ASUSTEK drive supplied in the enclosure) in < 5 minutes under 98SE.

I've still got 3 more OfficeMax stores in town to check, maybe I'll get lucky and find another one (hopefully with a LiteOn drive, but $29 still isn't bad for a powered USB 2 to ATAPI enclosure locally and I can always sell the drives). Too bad all the LiteOns I have are white/beige, they'll look funny in the Cendyne enclosure.

My goal is 3 or 4 USB2 enclosures - one for CDRW (52246 probably), one for DVDRW, and one for a hard drive, plus possibly one to keep a CDRW in at work - the new Dell Optiplexes we got suck - <200 watt supply and the CDROM is a Samsung laptop drive - no room for a real drive.
