I'd look for the SE-S204N. This device is the descendant of the SE-S184M. As far as I know the SE-S204 contains a SH-S202 burner and I think the 202is a good choice. The SE-S184 is outdated and I guess there will be no firmware updates anymore.
I'm not sure if the SE-S184M is affected with the DVD-R leadin issue. You can find more information in one of my signature links about the problem.

I would not recommend LG. My first burner was LG and the firmware support was not really good. I do not expect firmware updated until the end of my life, but after a few month no more updates because a bunch of new models were came out.... maybe LG changed this policy, but for me it looks like every few days a new LG burner is coming on the market...

Re: Which is a better Buy?

Or alternatively can anyone recommend a external drive that would be better than any mentioned in this post.

Im want a reliable drive that isnt going to break in a month,I would like the drive to support lightscribe.

this is my first external drive. I have about $100 to spend.

thanks TM for the feedback.

I would say Lite-On is your best bet. I'm speaking from personal experience. It has 6-10X rip speed and it burn to my Verbatim SL DVD+R's (8x speed, 16X rate) around 95%..
