When will internal HD-DVD players (or recorders) be available???

Did a search here and Google but couldn't find anything related except for laptops and playstations...

Pinnacle's Studio 10 currently has a public beta involving a new feature to burn HD-DVD on standard DVDs. Now all we need is an affordable internal player so HDV can be played on a PC monitor. Most people don't have $1500 (minimum!) to buy a standalone HD-DVD player and entry-level HDTV...

Don't forget that you will have to have Window Vista 64bit edition to be able to run HD material properly. The 32bit edition will not support it.

Re: When will internal HD-DVD players (or recorders) be available???

That new Studio 10 feature will give people a way record HDV NOW on cheap media until the HD burners and media become available and affordable. No difference in HD image-quality, just a shorter recording time. With Bluray discs selling for $16/ea and quality standard discs costing $0.25-0.50/ea, this new transitional feature will be very popular.

But the primary question remains: when will we be seeing internal HD-DVD players??? It bugs me that the current set top models are basically a P4 PC with a standard 5" internal player tied into a proprietary OS. I already have a Conroe PC and don't want a second PC (especially a hot running, inefficient P4!) when all I need is the optical drive...

Well I can playback HD material right now. Usually .TS rips or reencoded .AVI or .MKV. I have some material that looks awesome and fits on a DVD nicely. However will it play on a standalone? No. But that does not bother me much.

You could use a WMV9HD capable standalone - this would work but require re-transcoding.
Other methods wont work yet.

HP has announced an external HD DVD-ROM drive bundled with Cyberlink software for release sometime over the holidays.

Impressive. What kind of rig are you running (GPU, Monitor, etc)? Must have been expensive to get all of those HDCP compliant parts? And do you really need a dual core CPU (as claimed by some)?

You could always take out the disc drive from a standalone HD-DVD player like this crazy guy.
