Blu-ray and HD DVD Hardware, Software and Blank Media Discuss, Show us your Blank Blu-Ray Media Stash! at International Chat: High Definition forum; Hard to say if Sony is bad or not just because it doesn't burn at 2x on one drive. I guess in my next review we will get another look at what it can do. I have some of those MIJ Memorex, they are rare now I think. Bought

Bought the Memorex BD-RE Made in USA knowing what they were, just for testing of course

What about the TDK? Good or bad reports?

Sony media, only tried 2x media, it actually in my case only burned at 1.7x, while other 2x media burns around 2.0-2.1x

Nice Zevi, I can tell by the color on those Memorex's that most of them are MIJ

The exchange rate was low when I got them. Approximately $7 for the BD-R's and $18 for the BD-R DL's.

3 - TDK 25GB BD-R "Made in Japan"
10 - Memorex 25GB BD-R "Made in Japan"

I am wondering if you are robbing the bank that can afford so many the most expensive BR disk in the4 market?. This is lot of spending on things %95 people do not afford.

Wow, you sure have a lot of choices. Where I am, I can find 2x Verbatim at $14-15 from a well known smaller retailer in Ontario, Canada (and they're at Future Shop too, but massively marked up) and Imation (I believe that these are the troublesome American-made ones?)/Sony at Best Buy...but marked up by a lot.

I haven't seen any Panasonic blanks...maybe I should ask around at some mom and pop stores.

Edit: Question - Where are the Verbatim discs made, country wise? And considering that Sony is MIJ, do they make their own media, or do they rebadge stuff from MEI (Panasonic)? ...Just trying to get confirmation of my previous statement

This price is available online and in store, also this price has been around since December. First it was 2x Panasonic, in January or February they switched the 2x to 4x.

I read they said that they spent $6-7 for a BD-R 25GB discs. Do you think this is so expensive compared to DVD DL 8.5GB for $2-3 a disc? I think if you refer to the retail price then it is, but not at $6-7 a disc, no?

Does anyone agree with me in saying that the high price is a premium that almost guarantees quality media?
Well, not necessary. I don't see BD media highly priced anymore. Few months back they were $29.99 a pop but now we can get them much less. Some people in this thread got them for $6 per. Frys as nekrosoft mentioned is selling constantly at $10 for the 4x BD-R TDK. And they all are premium disks. Shop around wisely and you'll get them cheaper.

Re: Show us your Blank Blu-Ray Media Stash!

I just got back from having a look at media at various places. I saw a Phillips BD-R, made in the Netherlands for $14+tax (unfortunately, I didn't take note of the speed). Any opinions about those?
