Problems with Toshiba TS-L802A

I received a TS-L802A a week ago from a friend. After putting it into a Dell D830 and trying out the HD version PowerDVD 7, and getting one error after another, I endeavored to install an updated firmware on the drive.

I installed 802tf32.exe on my drive from
http://backfire.rpc1.org/tsstcorp/in...path=TS-L802A/. Afterwards, the drive will only be recognized 1 in 10 times coming out of suspend mode and the Dell BIOS barks at me that it can't identify the device plugged into the optical bay when I restart my machine. Someone on the RPC1 forums (which is down and has been for about 4-5 days) advised me that I installed the wrong firmware version. I ran DiscInfo (info below) which tells me that I have a Toshiba branded drive and that I should install WinVup2_L802A_RATO35 rev2.exe. However, when I go to install it I see the drive in the dropdown, but it says "Update is not available" and the Update Start(V) button is greyed out.

Can anyone here help me to force the installation of this BIOS onto my drive?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Problems with Toshiba TS-L802A

I got the drive working - as far as windows is concerned. I installed the HP-21 firmware (located here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...442974&os=2093) and the drive fires up 100% and does not bark at me when I restart.

Now - If I could only get windows to recognize an HD-DVd disc when I insert it. It plays DVDs no problem - damn the man.

Any ideas appreciated.

What is the exact version of PowerDVD 7 to include the build number?

This update is NOT for your drive!!!

You must ask DELL.

The drive did not come from Dell - it was an aftermarket drive.

No - it did not come in my dell laptop - nor is it a Dell HD DVD drive. It is a Toshiba drive that I am trying to get to work in my Dell laptop.

Aha. But I doubt you will find suitable firmware.

Which is moronic (not that I would discount Dell from doing so) - why would Dell prevent that? In theory, all laptop drives should work just fine, as long as it can pick up the drive. Thre is no real difference between a desktop and a laptop - you can install any optical drive in a desktop - without issue.

Re: Problems with Toshiba TS-L802A

Does DELL firmware exists for that drive?? And if yes, you cannot backup it probably so you would have to wait for a firmware release from DELL.
