| Lite-On DH-401S can read Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs Yes, it is true; the Lite-On DH-401S can read the content of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs. In the past I have tried to read Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs in other Blu-ray drives but the discs was not recognizable in those drives. Could this lead into the direction of making backups of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) games? Below you will find the complete directory layout of a game disc and some windows snapshots. PHP Code:

| Re: Lite-On DH-401S can read Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs Yes I did, I made an image of a game disc and burned it onto a BD-RE media, but the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) reported the media as a data disc instead of a game disc.

Wait till a mod chip or some sort of hack comes out and the burn you made may work. Hopefully more drives will be able to read PS3 games also.

Still no sign of getting them to work, tho. And when there finally is a hack, it's most likely going to be HD-based, and not disc-based. And at the very least will likely require some patching, or a 'trick' to burn the discs, so quit wasting those precious blanks on coasters. |

PS3 images have been dumped using PS3 SAK or Linux since some time ago but the difference is with this drive it will be much faster to rip the disc. Also since with this Lite-On 401S drive can read and rip the PS3 game content I think *someone* will be able to analyze the (original) disc structure easier then ever. Whether at the end we need a modchip or not, it is a step forward (for backing up PS3 games). |

What happens if you boot up the game using an original, while on pause or while it's on a menu screen, eject the original and put the backup in, does the game carry on? This will prove the game data, structure etc is correct and indeed a boot structure.hack or something will be needed. |
