Re: LG GGW-H20L : Scans and discussion here

You better try it before you burned more BD-R (maybe your friend's).

My first few BD-R burns have issues (at that time I don't have a player yet.) Then got a PS3 and tested a few burns. First burn didn't work on the PS3 (but it works when playback on PC), another burn skips and pixellations, etc. I'm guessing that those pixellations or "noise" happen when transferring tens of gigabytes of files between harddrives or from the LG to harddrive.

One of my ripped movies in my HTPC was "dirty". I figured it out when using eac3to to extract one of the audio streams, it gives me error: "This track is not clean. Processing aborted." Ripped again from original discs and eac3to problem gone.

Not to scare away but I guess we need to be careful when playing around with multi gigabytes of files. I think I've wasted 3-5 BD-Rs so far which they either didn't play on the PS3 or skip/pixellation.

Only 5440 mb is not really useful in case of DL.

You want me to laugh about that you wrote??
You know exactly what I meant... I was referring to the fact that you quality scanned a DL with only 5440mb content on it, nothing more, nothing less.

I had hoped to see a QS of a "full DL" burned by the H20 with other than Verbatim DL media.

Interesting scan... the drive seems to handle very well the LB transition and at least the outer part of the second layer, which is remarkable. And with RITEK media... nice. Maybe adding a TRT scan result would be also interesting.

Very nice DL burn nekrosoft13. What burn speed? And is it Memorex brand? (I have Memorex DL with this MID, and it's also producing good burns).

Re: LG GGW-H20L : Scans and discussion here

I bought this drive from frys.com about 2 weeks ago (ordered by phone) and am pleased with it so far. My job calls for me to spend most of the next 12 weeks away from home. So this weekend, when I was at home, I used this drive and BackupBluray to rip Terminator 2, The Prestige, and Casino Royale to an external hard drive. Then I installed the PowerDVD that came on the CD with the drive on my dual-core laptop and am able to play the m2ts files back (away from home).

YMMV, but I was also able to use the Nero 7 Express essentials that came with my retail Pioneer 112D and the one BD-RE disc that came with the drive to make a backup of Terminator 2. I used BackupBluray and placed all the ripped files into a blank "Stream" directory. I then copied all of the other folders off the original disc. Burned all folders as a data Blu-ray, and the backup played from beginning to end (menus and all) in my Panasonic DMP-BD30.

I highly recommend this drive to anyone wanting to rip and play movies on a non-HDCP compliant display Blank BD-R are still expensive, so hey're not really worth backing up yet - but it's still nice having the burner to use in the future when they get cheaper.

BTW, thanks nekrosoft13, for providing the PLU number for this item. I couldn't have ordered the burner from fry's without it.

I will do some other DL burns later, like i said that might not be a full burn, but it has the most important part of any DL burn,

This TDK CMC media must be of superior quality

This is maxell CMC.MAG.AM3 which I though was from the better batches, but it's far from as good as TDK.
