LG GGW-H20L - HD-DVD playback problem.

I just obtained my first HD-DVD movie: The Hulk and it refuses to playback on my PC.

The disc is recognised by my LG GGW-H20L and AnyDVD HD successfully loads it but when I try to run it in PowerDVD it just quits. I have tried playing the individual movie files in Media Player Classic which work but there is no sound (and I can only play what seems to be the extras not the actual movie itself).

I tried ripping the movie with AnyDVD and playing the files in PowerDVD but this caused it to quit as well.

I ran a benchmark test in CD-DVD Speed and got the following:

It shows that it can read the disc perfectly fine so I am not sure what else I can do.

I also installed the UDF update and all this did was allow me to see the contents of the Disc in My Computer and nothing more.

In case it helps I am using:
AnyDVD HD 6.1.32
PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra

and my displays are 2x19" DVI LCDs on a Gefore 7800 GTX and 1x19" VGA LCD on a Gefore 6200 TurboCache - neither of which is HDCP compliant.

Could this be a Graphics Card related problem?

That or software, the drive seems to be doing it's job.

PowerDVD wont play HD-DVDs or Blu-Ray movies from the hard drive anymore because of internet piracy but it will still play the movies from your LG GGW-H20L Drive

Re: LG GGW-H20L - HD-DVD playback problem.

Yeah after doing some of my own research I found that out too and had to dig up an old copy of PowerDVD 6.5 to play them from the hard disk.

Although I know they play straight from the disc this does not seem to work even with AnyDVD and it could be because I do not have a HDCP compliant graphics card or monitor.

I guess I will just have to copy each movie over to the hard drive if I plan to watch them.

I am interested if there is a way to play the movie directly from the HD-DVD discs if anyone knows.

If your system (video card and monitor) is not HDCP compliant, you can try with AnyDVD HD enabled in the background, or playback via VGA native port (not using DVI-VGA adapter). I think with 19" monitor the difference between DVI and VGA is not that significant.
