LG GGW-H10N (The Blu-ray burner, HD-DVD player) drive - Club CDFreaks

Well I just got my LG GGW-H10N drive last night, and have only played a single HD-DVD so far, I also confirm that Nero sees the burner as a blu-ray burner.

I have not been able to playback a blu-ray disk as the one I ordered is no the way still, but I wanted to get a thread started and see if I could answer questions posed by users, as I've seen no good first hand information on this drive (which for the ability to playback HD-DVD and Blu-Ray as well as burn blu-ray at 4x is unique).

I will be doing to following in the next few days, burning a single layer BD-RE disk (and a double layer BD-RE, if it comes in). Playing back DVDs and a Blu-ray disk, as well as trying ANYDVD-HD. Anything else people are interested in, with respect to this drive?

How much was it? And where did you get it?

Also, I hope their description is wrong at Supermediastore. There, it says "While it cannot write Blu-ray DL, it can read BD-ROM DL media at 4X".

No the GGW (check that code), support burning Blu-Ray BE-DL disks, while the older model which also does not support HD-DVD read did not. I got mine from ewiz (through an ebay auction as it was 100 less than the websie price). The total for the unit was about $825. Supermediastore and most other places are selling the "LG GBW-H10N' not the replacement LG GGW-H10N drive.

Yes it's the world's first BD/HD-DVD drive. However the big brother GBW-H10N (BD only) is the first 4x BD writer.

In any case, it's a pretty looking drive with black piano finish surrounding the tray (you need to peel the plastic protection) and it's SATA.

So I burned by first Blu-Ray disk today, and well the disk is clean, but the speed at which the burn occurred was just sad, .86x thats2 hours for a single layer or 4 for a double lay disk. I will give the TDK media the drive came with a try later and see if it is any better. As for the read speed, it got as high as 3.34 on a BE disk, which I guess is ok, was hoping it would make at least 4x and that the initial speed would be at least 2x, but I guess I need to repeat this test with original media.

I can not upload an images as all I get is annoying message: "Attachment in Progress. Can be deleted here.", waited 20 minutes message never change!

125 minutes to burn a Blu-Ray seems very sad... I tend to wonder if they are only allowing slow burns to make it harder to copy discs with a reasonable workflow?

egandt, you must have verification enabled thus it writes BD-RE less than 1x.

To overcome this, set the following: CDSpeed > Options > Transfer Rate > Enable Streaming (tick the box).

This is what you should get for BD-RE (45 mins @2x) and BD-R (27mins @4x).

I'll give that a try I did burn on the TDK and got the same results I will try following "zevia" suggestion tomorrow, but here is what I got for the TDK media.

One last image from reading a pressed disk, which shows that the max read is infact 4x for a blu-ray disk, I will try a pressed HD-DVD tomorrow.

According to the specs and tested, it does not support DVD-RAM read/write.

Probably it is easier to disable just the DVD-RAM media detection than to remove all traces in the firmware.
