Yes and yes. You need a card that has the right memory chip, the list is in the BIOS flash zip from SIL, (read-me file). I got one from NewEgg, the SYBA SD SATA 4P. You have to flash the BIOS first, then install the Windows SIL "IDE driver". The funny part is that AFTER you flash the BIOS in DOS and install the newest driver, only then will you have an option in device manager card properties for flashing BIOS in Windows. You want to see "SataLink" on the controller in POST, and "SataLink" on the card in device manager, as opposed to "SataRAID".

The Rosewill card I had didn't have the correct memory chip for flashing.

i have this one

but i use my for "esata" two external HDDs, but i have it loaded with base bios for satalink, no raid.

ports are esata, but card doesn't support esata. It connects like esata, but its a sata controller, so it doesn't fully support hot-pluging, it will hot-plug, but in event viewer will display an error message.

That's the one I have. As long as it's in base mode, you can mix drives all you want. I currently have a HDD and GGC-H20L on this card.

Hi all, new to the forum here and I just got me the GGC-H20L from that Best Buy sale about 2 weeks ago...too cheap to pass up =) It just came in the mail today =).

Been reading up on some threads in this forum section and there are a lot of great information. I see alot of DVD media types have already been tested for this drive but I have not seen the Ridata -R. Has there been any issues with with this media? I have been using the old 8x and the 16x for all my DVD writers and this media seems to record the best and have the most compatibility in all different types of DVD drives from stand alone types to mobile in car drives.

If no one has tried then I guess I will have be the test mule for this. Anyways, good to be on the board and hope to learn alot from the resident guru's.

I am trying to show how the GGC-H20L handles these less than
best quality media such as this disc Made in Hong Kong.

As we have seen throughout this thread, this drive does a sweet
job with most media MIJ, MIT, and other reputable manufacturers.
