Not wanting to be an "early adopter" and always concerned with the cost of storage media as opposed to being on the "cutting edge"==>I'm interested in the viewing pleasure difference between blue-ray high definition home recordings versus that same original source being re-encoded to a high quality DvD resolution/bit rate Dvd!!!!

From what I've read, few of us would be able to tell the difference with a good upcoding player?

If that is all true, the "clever" approach would to be mindful of the storage/media cost when considering the hours of material some of us collect off the discovery/history channel?

The 2 official resolutions for HD are 720p which is 60 progressive frames of 1280x720 and 1080i which is 60 interlaced fields of 1920x540.

For movies, which are usually 24fps this basically means 1920x1080 @ 24fps after inverse telecine. Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray can store video at 1920x1080 and 1280x720 at 60 progressive fps.

While 1920x1200 is not an "official" HD resolution (it's 16:10 for one thing), it can display 16:9 1920x1080 frames with black bars top and bottom 1:1, so it fully displays all the information in the picture.

Can any scanning be done on Blu-Ray media yet?

Is it possible to try and put multiple DVD movies (1:1 copies?) on to 1 BD disc?

What is the native format for High Def movies on Blu-Ray? I've read its MPEG-2, but I've also seen that the HD DVD's format can be used as well:

Were you able to playback any Bluray movies? I think you need Windvd8 or the Cyberlink HD software.

OH PLEASE, Excuse me for saying so but, if their burners are as crappy as their Printers, then u my friend can stick those optical storages where the sun doenst shine. Have had 4 stinking hp printers in the last 5 years. And each time as soon as the guarantee period was expired i had problems whit the sheetfeeders. Coincidence.....?!?
