Hello - good choice for a Blu-ray drive?

Hello, this is my first posting on this site. I would like to know what would be a good choice for a Blue Ray drive?

rjhall, welcome to CDFreaks

What are you looking for in your first Blu-ray drive?

Do you just want to play Movies? Do you want the ability to burn DVD's and CD's?

Grab a BD-ROM, like the one from Liteon.

If the former, any drive but Lite-On (I've never had one of their drives last longer than 6 months before dying in any number of ways). The LG GGC-H20L will allow you to watch both Blu-ray and HD DVD movies. With HD DVD in the dumper, you can score some pretty sweet deals on a lot of great movies that haven't been released yet on Blu-ray.

If you're looking for a set-top player, you can do one of two things: purchase a PS3 now or wait until Blu-ray Profile 2.0 players become widely available. The PS3 will support BDP 2.0 via a software update. Other standalone players that are on shelves right now do not and never will. Hardcore videophiles will argue the whole game console vs. standalone as high-def player. But I've been completely content with my PS3's performance. The fact that it plays games, too, is a bonus.

You really have answer rjhall question since we all try to give him any good suggestion if possible to his inquiry.

Oh I know. But you asked a very good question, and I would think the OP should see that my reply was directed at him. I realize that I probably should have clarified that. Oh well, you know what they say about hindsight.
