| HD with Std DVD-R Being completely new to HD, so please excuse my ignorance!! I have just bought a new Pansonic HD ready 42" Plasma and DVD player that will output 720p and 1080i through HDMI In the shop they played a HD demo disc to show the clariy of the HD format I was wondering:- Is it possible to put a short (2 minutes) HD clip (either 720p or 1080i) onto a standard DVD-R that will play at the HD resolution or was the Panasonic demo disc a specialy made HD disc I don't want a standard DVD resolution disc that is being scaled up by the DVD player Many thanks for your patients with my lack of knowledge on this matter |

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R you can have HD on DVD, it might stutter though depending on the player. You can probably put about 30 minutes on a DVD, on not so high bitrate, as an MPEG file and see whether your player will take it. I doubt a dvd player would though. It would take MPEG's up to the normal 720p (not sure that it would even work for 1080i)

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R I have a wmv file which is 1280 X 720 resolution My copy of Nero will only make a DVD Video a the standard setting 720 X 576 or less. Even in custom mode it won't allow you to leave the resoultion as it is What software could I use to make this DVD with the higher resolution Many Thanks |

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R DVD-VIDEO standard never gets higher than 720x576!!! Just forget it with any normal DVD standalone. Your WMV HD files are made for either HD-DVD or playback via a computer.

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R What player/model do you have in mind? I've never seen one or heard of one who could manage that res and bitrate required... With luck you'll be able to hear the audio/sound, nothing more, nothing less. ![]()

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R well - i'm thinking if the dvd player can output 1080i, it won't do any harm trying it. if you're lucky it mite even work!

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R Are you really sure about your player HD output? Read it well as it can be just "720 to 1080 upconversion", meaning that it will convert 720 to 1080 and sends the signal through HDMI to the flat to use its maximum resolution, giving you the idea of a better picture. If this is the case your player only reads normal DVD. You have software that can edit and compress HD video, upmarket and semi-pro, but you also need a HD video camera to start with and a computer that can handle the demanding task put by High Definition. If you record out of broadcast, you can get Hd from the satelite, but on the other end you need a topset recorder that can record HD (still to come...) So, I'm affraid you have a difficult task ahead and maybe you have to wait some time before you profit from the HD quality home recordings. But it seems to be something that will not take that long: just look at HD-DVD and Blu-ray news (we can have players and recorders by the end of 2005, first half 2006), consumer level cameras (sony has one at €2100) and HD software coming down the scale also. |

| Re: HD with Std DVD-R Yes you can convert HD DVD to Bluray onto a single DVD-R and can be outputed to 1080p on the Playstation 3. You have to make a HDAVC dvd in order for this to work. I really do not know the specifics but there are torrents out there that work very well. Try to find tinker and ask him pete |
