CDan, interesting that when I clicked Make HD DVD, it supports many files including m2ts and ts files. I haven't try this yet.
Wohoo, I had never thought I would use that crappy Nero vision one day.
This day may have come, because I have lotsa recordings in .trp format (SD & HD) here, recorded via a standalone DVB-S2 PVR.
OK, I'll check it out. Thanks for the hint!!

I dont know who to associate the sonic audio decoder into eac3to.
EACto knows how to find it. You just install the thing and go. It works great here, just re-encoded a DD+ 5:1 @ 3Mb/sec bitrate to DD 5:1 @ 640Kb in about a minute. This was a 1.4 GB audio file and now it's 300KB. Will try it on TrueHD next.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

Ok, figured the way to force using sonic in the GUI.
Or you can use "-sonic" in the command line.

eac3to_sonic.PNG

But it doesn't work with one of my streams (Transformers HD DVD) :

Quote:
This track is not clean. Processing aborted.
Please clean the track with delaycut and then retry eac3to.
This happens with both nero and sonic filter. Will try to find "delaycut".

Isn't Transformers one that had playback problems too?

You mean standalone playback problem? I don't know since I don't have HD DVD standalone player, been playback HD DVD movies from HTPC. I thought HD DVD doesn't have any playback problem?

Edit: I've been trying to "transform" Transformers HD DVD to Blu-ray but always stuck in the audio conversion. The video plays fine on my blu-ray player.

I know there were a lot of problems reported at AVS with that one, don't know more than that cause I don't have it.

The Sonic decoder fails with TrueHD, reports it can't decode that.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

I thought I read that the new TsRemux 0.19 can convert TrueHD to DD.

This is one of the changelog in v0.0.19
- Ability to extract Dolby Digital from TrueHD in Blu-Ray streams (new)

I found delaycut 1.2.1.2 but read from doom9 that delaycut 1.3 is better, can't find it.

tsremux won't work for me at all. 0.0.18 will load but errors out on almost everything.

Also can't get Vision to accept a demuxed H264 video stream file at all.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

?IS there a workable way to split a project onto multiple discs? Would it be better to use the regular HD-DVD project for this? Then burn the parts to DVD.
I can't seem to find a simple way to do this in Vision. Also have problems with a audio file converted in EAC3to being a different length than the video it came from. Wish it didn't take so many hours to find out if something works or not.

DVTool can split EVOs into parts, maybe that's the way to approach it. Then use those to create the Vision mini-HD-DVD projects. Lots of work!

DVTool can split any file into parts. I have used it since 2001.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

Well, so far, starting with MPEG2 video, results are fine, but using H264 for a source results in nothing but stuttering video and un-synched audio. Nero sure is crap for encoding.

Nero8 can combine them. But here, the results are not watchable on my Toshiba. Stuttering video and asynch audio. Ulead just crashes right near the end of the recode.

It does here, but I have to deselect asynch I/O.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

I haven't try it but you can use XMuxer or Manzanita to remux them.
Also in addition to EVODemux, eac3to can demux video and audio streams.

Re: Creating mini-HD-DVD in Nero

Been struggling and head-scratching over stuttering playback of mini-HDDVDs in my A3 player. It's definitely related to bitrates of the video. I've also noted that MPEG4 tends to suffer a lot less than MPEG2 does. and for reasons that are not clear to me, DVD-R has the least trouble compared to +R and +RDL.

Here's some interesting math to ponder:

HD-DVD encoded at 15000Kb/sec translates to about a 1875 KB datarate. This may be the problem. 1x DVD datarate is 1385KB/sec. Oops! This means that with variable bitrate encoding, scenes with a lot of motion will exceed the available datarate. It also means that constant bitrate encoding is a very bad idea. It also begs the question of why Nero is offering bitrates over 25k. Seems like a recipe for stuttering to me. If a player had a huge buffer, and the ability to spin the disc faster than 1x, it would be different. Or am I missing something?

I guess that MPEG4 tends to run at lower bitrates when variable bitrate is used.

I've tried using Ulead to create MPEG2 with bitrates under 15k, but the artifacts start to get pretty bad. MPEG4 is the way to go, and I think Nero needs to be set to force MPEG4, rather than "auto".
