CD-DVD Speed Simulation for BD-R Media

Hi everyone,
Did a search and found no mention of this.

I recently purchased a Verbatim 2x BD-R with the mid VERBATIMa which supports 4x and 6x burn speeds. I was wishing to test this disc out with CD-DVD Speed's Create Disc Test to see if my mobo controller can really sustain the data rate required by those type of speeds on my LG GGW-H20L.

However the disc cost me around £9 (approx $18) including shipping and I do not really want to waste this kind of money performing a test with CD-DVD Speed.

What I would like to know is whether a simulation is actually possible and accurate enough. I selected the simulate option in CD-DVD Speed but then when I start the tests it throws up a warning that "Simulation may not be possible with this type of disc". Needless to say I stopped at that point as I do not want to lose the disc.

Can anyone confirm whether simulation will work or not?

Re: CD-DVD Speed Simulation for BD-R Media

Your hunch was correct by stopping the simulation. On BD-R/RE disc, simulation will not work and if you click Yes after the warning window, it will burn your disc!

Ah good thing that I did not continue then...thanks for letting me know. I guess I will just have to try and record a normal data BD-R and see how things go.

Re: CD-DVD Speed Simulation for BD-R Media

What operating system are you using?

If XP you should be able to see how fast your burning if using Nero Burning ROM using a registry edit it will show the actual speed while burning.

See this thread HERE

For Vista I appears not to work so you could make a ISO of some data and burn using ImgBurn.
