Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

I just added the LG GGC-H20L to a brand new Dell XPS 420 w Vista Ultimate and ATI HD 2400 Pro. I installed the bundled Cyberlink software including PowerDVD 7 Ultra.

The PowerDVD ultra 7 wont play Blu-ray or HDDVD movies - it asks for some critical component update. This then takes me to the Cyberlink website where it asks you to upgrade to version 8 for a cost of $89.

Am I missing a patch somewhere or is this a ripoff to make me pay $89 on top of the drive cost - the bundled software wont work as is?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Good luck! Cyberlink will refuse to support bundled software. So yes, it's a ripoff, but it should also be working for you. Any specific message it's giving you? Is your system fully HDCP compatible?

I almost fell out of my chair - here its July 4, I sent an email thru Cyberlink support - got a reply email back (probably from India) from them with the correct patch and now the drive's playing HD and BR - yay!
Happy 4th to all!

vajurewi, can you tell us which version is the patch? I would guess it's "CyberLink.3730d_Ultra_DVD080411-03.exe"?

Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

they sent me this ftp link:

ftp://191:OAESXQC9@ftp.gocyberlink.c...D080624-01.exe

so if anyone else gets 'player needs update of critical components to play certain movies' for BR or HD DVD's thats where to go.

4102b, eh? Was there an update for the retail 7.3 that I missed while I was gone?? If not this'd be the first time I'm aware of that the OEM version is more up to date than the retail version. LOL.

Yeah that's odd, the 7.3 OEM gets upgraded to 4102b while the retail gets 3730d.

That's wrong, zevia. 7.3 retail has 4102. Or should I say....HAD. They seemed to have pulled ALL 7.3 patches from their site. At least the last time I checked.

Ah okay, I missed that patch then, SamuriHL.

But we don't need v7 anymore right?

Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

That depends, zev....how attached are you to your HD DVD collection? We've discovered ways of patching HD DVD support into PowerDVD 8, but, it ain't pretty and requires some files from 7.3 4102. 7.3 doesn't need to remain installed once you get the files you need, but, it's still not perfect. I currently only have 8 installed on my main HTPC. 8 sucks down too many resources for my second HTPC so I use 7 on there.

That's right, Sam, I forgot that PowerDVD 8 doesn't support HD DVD!

Honestly, I'm only waiting for a few exclusive HD DVD titles on Blu-ray, eq Transformers, KingKong etc.

Hmm, maybe you can tell us how to patch HD DVD on v8 (not just link to SS of course).
Thanks!

Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

I would, zev, but it requires acquiring a file of....questionable origins. There is an IMP file that's required that I doubt they'd like linked here. It originally came from a leaked PowerDVD 8 beta that had HD DVD support. Someone sent it to me when I was first playing around with the concept of adding HD DVD support back in. Assuming you acquire such a file as that, the rest is fairly trivial.

NOTE: All files except the aforementioned IMP file come from the 4102 build of 7.3. You can install it, copy the files out, and uninstall it if you like.

Install PowerDVD8, upgrade to latest patch.
Copy the HDDVD_X.IMP file to your PowerDVD8 folder
Copy js32.dll and deskband32.dll files to your PowerDVD8 folder
Edit the CLDShowX.ini file to comment out the HD DVD nav line
Copy the following files from 4102's navFilter folder:
CLHDSPDecoder.dll
hddvd_logo.png
HDDVDAdvNav.dll
HDDVDNav.ax
HDDVDNavi.dll

regsvr32 HDDVDNav.ax from a cmd prompt in the NavFilter folder.

It doesn't work with build 1730 or later. Hence the new instructions I've posted.

Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

I am having the same problem that gokhor101 had in the first post. I also believe that it has something to do with SATA because regardless of whether it is Vista or XP, it behaves the same - the drive can play regular DVD without any problem but it can't read/recognize HD-DVD disc. If I leave a HD-DVD disc on bootup, it tries to boot from the HD-DVD disc. But since it can't recognize it, it simply got stuck there.

I have tried using a 3512 SATA card (flashed with base BIOS) but it worked the same way. My mobo is XFX 630i-7159. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks, MegaDETH. I ordered the card you suggested and it should arrive today. I will see how that goes. Regarding the 3512 card I mentioned: I picked it up at Fry's and it is also made by SYBA. It is a 2-port card tho.

Re: Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

You will need to flash the card (I did from DOS not Windows).

Here you will find what you need, please let us know how it goes. Right now I have Samsung 203N and Optiarc AD-7200S running on this controller with no problems ( I did also have the LG GGC-H20L on it but needed the space for a little while for a review

Find Bios here:
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/...ctid=2&osid=0&
Find drivers here:
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/...?pid=28&cid=3&

Please let us know how it works out for you.

I did flash the 3512 with base BIOS but it didn't make a difference. Hope for better luck with 3112...
