Blu-ray and HD DVD Hardware, Software and Blank Media Discuss, Bad pressed Blu-ray disc at International Chat: High Definition forum; A friend came to me and showed his copy of Spiderman 3 Blu-ray. There is a big "bubble" in the data area. The disc is unreadable. Just bad luck I guess?

A friend came to me and showed his copy of Spiderman 3 Blu-ray.

There is a big "bubble" in the data area. The disc is unreadable.

Just bad luck I guess?

So the error correction mechanism in Blu-ray is not capable of handling a 5 cm (2 inch) dropout?

Or perhaps this is the new and improved anti-piracy technology - if you can't read it you can't copy it!

That's odd, I bought Spiderman 3 (Blu-ray) yesterday and the Audio completly dropped out on me 5 times during the movie. (Set to Dolby true HD) at one time the audio lagged about 2-3 seconds behind the video. Exchanged it for another and the second one works fine. Poor quality control maybe?
