Should I buy an external DVD R and HDD Caddy?

Hi People,
I hope this is the right section.

I have a relatively old laptop ( about 2 Years (( sorry cant remember the specs, and it is at work, so i cant check, running XP))

I am thinking about getting an external caddy for a spare DVD+R drive i have, and another caddy for a spare 40 gig HDD, both probably on USB2.

If i buy a USB2 PCMCIA Card and a powered hub, do you think it would be feasible to use them, with success with the laptop???

thanxs in advance

Yes, it would! USB2.0 has a maximal (theoretical) bandwith of 480mbit/sec (that's about 60mb/sec) and more than enough for such a system. Simple as that

Consider firewire over USB2, it's has more throughput and is a bit more stable than USB.
