Seagate ST3250820AS failed! What happened? Hey! I've had this Seagate HD for 2 years now, and it suddenly stopped working. It still spins, but now, BIOS won't recognize it and it keeps making a beeping sound every 3 seconds (this happens when it's connected to the power cable. The data cable has nothing to do with it). Does anyone know what's the problem? Could it be fixed by switching the logic board? Details on the HD: Seagate ST3250820AS 250 gb Barracuda 7200.10 p/n 9BJ13E-300 Firmware 3.AAC Logic board: 100406540 Any help is welcome, Thanks!

Re: Seagate ST3250820AS failed! What happened? Did you buy it new? Are you in North America? Seagate drives here have 5-year warranties, so if you bought it new, it should still be under warranty and can be fixed for free (except for the cost of shipping it to Seagate). Go to the Seagate web site and type in the serial number from the drive, to see if it is still under warranty.

Re: Seagate ST3250820AS failed! What happened? Maybe google for hard drive repair sites that have many users that can help you to buy and diagnose your drive, besides other useful informations you'll learn. You will need to access to the drive via an RS232 inface board to the drive, inferfacing with hyperterminal for instance. With the correct commands you can communicate at service level. It can then tell you what is wrong with the drive and much more besides. You could chance changing the board over, but if not knowing what to do. Could rersult in damaging both board and total your bad drive. With info from better suited sites you will find out what is needed and needed to be done.

Re: Seagate ST3250820AS failed! What happened? Beside any one sending their drive back to seagate will near always get a refurbished drive back. A second, third or fourth hand drive that seagate have repaired. The five year warranty is a joke on you, end of the day you've been suckered. They don't recover data for free.

Re: Seagate ST3250820AS failed! What happened? Have you tried attaching it to another PC as a slave drive (make sure you change the pin in the back to slave or cable select)? You just need it to work for a little while so you take your important stuff of it.
