Problem storing video files on 2nd hard drive

Hello All, I have recently purchased and had a 500 gb seagate hard drive installed on my computer. The main reason for purchasing it was to put my video files, etc. on it. However, the video files that I have moved over to that hard drive whenener I try to play them they stutter and freeze and you can't watch any of them on the added hard drive. So, I partitioned a part of the drive thinking that might help and it didn't. So, I just need to find out why my movie files, etc. won't play correctly on my second hard drive? Thanks all.

Check to see if UDMA is set and functioning on the drive.

It should work just fine. Perhaps if you provide some details about your system configuration. Also perhaps a disc benchmark on the drive could shed some light.
Anything that measures hard drive speeds.

Re: Problem storing video files on 2nd hard drive

Is it on PATA or SATA?

In case of PATA, check the connection/cable and UDMA mode.
In case of SATA check the cable/connection and SATA mode setup.

Re: Problem storing video files on 2nd hard drive

Ok thanks all... I did do the disc benchmark and saw a big difference in the hard drive speeds. My storage hard drive had a avg. speed of 2.0mb/s, so thats why its been stuttering and freezing while playing video. Are there ways to make it run faster?

if its an IDE drive then : do you use a 80-wire IDE cable ?

I dont think so reading above but if its on USB (external): out of luck (usb 2.0 has its limits)

In addition to checking the cable as suggested above, you might also want to read this thread:

and also this article:
