That's no problem, but it can be a bit tricky to find the right BIOS settings (check the mainboard manual). Also boot priority must be set correctly to boot from your system (Windows) drive.

I've heard people recommend that you only use one or the other, don't mix IDE and SATA HDDS.

Don't know why.

No need for that, mixing them up just needs a lil tweaking, like Cressida already mentioned.
