Hard Drive Problem

I just installed a HD because my Windows Crashed when burning a movie and some files went missing and I couldn't repair it or login to Windows, I installed XP on the new HD and I want to copy those missing files to the old HD, when I click on the old HD, windows asked me if I want to format it, will I lose all my stuff if I format my old HD? If so, is there a way where I won't lose anything but still move the stuff back to my old HD?

Re: Hard Drive Problem

I assume you have already tried the recovery console on win xp ?
Here are some more things you could try:

1) fix mbr or
2) try a ntfs reader for dos or
3) Get a Knoppix CD and try to access the damaged drive from there or
4) Use recovery software like file scavenger or ontrack recovery

Hope this helps....

Re: Hard Drive Problem

It might be better to just use your fresh install, and copy your old data file from the old drive.

I have heard good things about GetDataBack. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly. I learned about this software from a thread similar to this one, here on cdfreaks forum.
