Re: hard drive memory

What format is the HDD in??

Fat32 has a file size limit of 2GB. It cannot store a single file bigger than this.

NTFS has a file size limit that is the same size as the drive.

I have a feeling that you are trying to write the image to a FAT32 formatted drive.

You can convert from FAT32 to NTFS under windows XP, just user the "convert x: /fs:ntfs" where x is the drive letter you wish to convert. BTW, this stops DOS seeing the drive so if you dual boot XP, Vista or Windows 2000 with Win 95, 98 or ME the latter will stop working.

Re: hard drive memory

@qwakrz

The Fat32 limit is actually 4GB , not 2GB. But I think your analysis is probably correct.

Re: hard drive memory

I accidently transfer a 6 gig video file to a FAT 32 format hard drive. No problems encountered. Do I need to worry about the file integrity? IF so, how do I verify the file integrity under Win XP Pro.

Re: hard drive memory

You can't actually do that without getting some form of error. Maybe it just truncated the file or you're actually not using FAT32 but NTFS.

Re: hard drive memory

The hard drive is formatted FAT32. I have checked the files using Windows chkdsk. Everything came up okay with no errors reported. But to played it safe I have transfered all the large files over to my other NTFS formatted drives. Once I have time ,I will reformat them into NTFS.

Re: hard drive memory

No need to reformat as you can convert it in-situ using the convert command. Obviously backup any important files beforehand although this is a fairly risk free exercise.
