Re: Hard disk problem

If you are running XP or Vista then you may need to authorise the drive and/or assign a drive letter to it.

Right click on My computer and choose Manage.

If the drive shows up us a Foreign drive then right click it and activate it.
If it shows a partition but no letter, right click the partition and assign a drive letter to it.

You have a bad hardware shop customer service...anyone who jsut says disk no more without details isn't one to go get hardware fixes or help from...also if this always happens when you hooked up to your friends computer then his computer has a problem...maybe you should burn your data to cd or dvd and give that to him...sounds odd that 2 HDD connected to his would go bad...so who runs it when you hooked the HDD to your friends computer? I for one would only burn the data for them not give my HDD to them is like giving your private information to them....

Re: Hard disk problem

Maybe, if the drive has been dropped onto a hard surface this would be sufficient to misalign the head at least and can cause much more serious damage.
Does the drive spin up? If the motor runs then the head is probably out if no data can be seen.
Do you have a working drive of the same make, model and size or can you get one. If so carefully unplug the printed circuit board and swap them over. Test the drive, if working copy contents to a new formatted drive if the data is important. If the drive will not work then the data is lost unless you pay a data recovery service, which is expensive.

Re: Hard disk problem

Looks like your friend has fried the drive. Try substituting the the printed circuit board as I suggested earlier otherwise it looks like they're dead.
