The SMP client will get you more PPD than running four singles.
I generally run 3x singles on a Dual core as idle priority, and a single SMP client as low priority, since the smp client won't run as a service, is only & expires too damn often to be reliable.

You run 3 singles and 1 SMP on a regular Dual core machine? at the same time ?

Mine shows 100 % just running 1 SMP om my dual core machines, I did not know you could run single's and the SMP on the same machine at the same time.

I guess that really shows how much of a newbie I am at this.

What can I run on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.41 GHz with 3 GB ram ?
Right now it is running 1 FAH6 and 1 WGC and it is at 100% all the time.

Yes, but only because some PC's are set to reboot when I don't have access to restart the SMP client ... and the SMP client expires every so often, and cannot be started as a machine service

Admitting that you've illegally downloaded movies/songs and need help to process/burn is comparable to robbing a bank, and walking into the bank the next day holding the bags of money to deposit them into your account.

debro

Thanks for all the info, my numbers do seem to be going up faster now that I am using my machines more.
I'll watch them for a week and see how they manage.

Thanks Again

Followed your link which led to another link to the new V6.22beta 2R3

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Seems to be back up for now will watch and let you know.

Thanks debro and jwill427

( By the way I lost all work on the 2 I redid with the new beta, started over with 1 . The one was at 82 % when it went down )

HRH Queen Debro (congratulations on being Top - do you feel any different ? ). Sorry (if its old news) only know about Win XP + Vista for PC , i get my SMP clients to start automatically (WITHOUT being a service) after a reboot by having a shortcut (to fah.exe etc) placed in the "START UP" folder (in the "all programs list" in 'start menu' ). Though the "blurb" says SMP "not supported as service" but in reality it seems many people can get it to run as a service and there are instructions eg;

it should be possible to (it is, even i just did it eventually) "drop in the new (6.22 FAH.exe) excutable" If you did it this way i found with all the steps, i must have messed up the first time; uninstall(?) (execute install.bat) old fah.exe, reinstall new one(- register) - if Vista remember to do this bit in "DOS/CoMmanD prompt BOX" etc - see FOLD forum). Also the config set up is a bit new (with extras like -smp flag etc)

Also do you do BACK - UPs for FAH? as if you had time before expiracy you could have started from one of your back ups you made before the 82% died (think you can automate process with a bat file ?). you can back up whole client folder or just essential parts (work, queue.dat, ?) and reinstall with install.dat.

If qfix fails to work and you are very keen do a search for "Qgen"in fold forum

PS bean55 .[joc] do you know why you make such bad competition............NO-ONE has a CHANCE is HELL of BEATING U[/joc]

-------------
TO: anyone interested

In case you were'nt aware, If you want to maximize the efficiency of your effort for the project you should try to finish your WU BEFORE the PREFERED DEADLINE , as after which "your" wu is sent to another donor to start on to reduce/slash the chance of waste (time?)if the final deadline is missed.

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

The problem isn't that they don't start up automatically .. so much as that I don't have access to the computers, or they are used by other people, so when the SMP-Beta's time out every few months, I can't update the damn things.

For that reason, they all run a few standard clients .. which means they're competing with the SMP version for a few months .. then the SMP client just .. stops.
My point score is hurting.

I still don't understand why they can't just release a stable version of the SMP client .. nearly all the clients I've had run fine 24/7 until a new beta is forced on us .. then they just stop

And what are you implying by the term "Queen"?

Yes I do some back-ups. These 2 machines are not always easy to get to, by the time I did get to them there wasn't any good spots to get from.

You would think they would have a more stable one by now.
