Is this right ? I do not have 64bit just a Intel Pent D 3.20Ghz Dual-Core with 3 gigs of ram Running WinXP Home

Been thinking of joining this team.

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

Thanks jwill427

Just wanted to confirm someone was actualy doing it with the 32 bit. That was the way i read it on the f@home site.
Hope to find time this weekend to start it up.
I also have 4 other computers around the house that may be able to do some of the lighter stuff.

The "use IE settings" has to do with the security settings of IE7, and was also caused in a
later update to IE6. Make sure it is set to "NO".
This doesn't interfer with the download of a new WU, just the upload.
Having problems uploading finished work, found this on PC Pitstop

Can someone verify this?
Trying to send all ( I have 3 units done that have not been sent )
Can someone give me better instructions on doing so?

Thanks

Copy and paste the line below into shortcut properties target area, substituting the "drive letter" for the letter of the drive F@H SMP is on. Remove the "-sendall" after you use it.

"drive letter:\Program Files\Folding@Home Windows SMP Client V1.01\fah.exe" -sendall

Thanks for trying but it did not work,I see where it tells it to but yet it does not send.I finally reinstalled the smp and just got the first 1 submitted a few minutes ago.Lost a week of running and 6 units, but running good now hopefully.
I got 3 extra machines from work for the 3 day weekend, hoping to make up for the lost time.

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

Hi all

I am about to join the ranks of the Core 2 Quad 4 Processor family
I have an Intel Q6600 that I am about to install.

Anyone got any tips that might help me get this up and folding?

I noticed that there are some new smp beta downloads, any preferance for the Intel core Q6600 ?

Would appreciate any and all tips?

Thanks

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

When Setting up the FAHSMP Client - RTM. It's dead simple.

And install a second SMP client for maximum points

The single SMP client only chews up 70%of your CPU time .. the second client chews up (most of) the rest

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

Aren't all of the SMP/GPU clients considered "high performance" ?

I am not sure , I installed 2 of the High Performance V6 beta ( X86 ) and the Quad Task Manager is showing it is only using up 50 % of the CPU. It also shows that only 2 core_86 are running. There is no display function with the V6 beta. It will be interesting to see what it does overnite.

I left the unit running at work and will see what it does tomorrow.

It was doing 1 percent every minute and a half when i left.

On the High performance page ther is the beta 5 SMP install.
Has any one actually installed it and seen what it does ?

Well got to look around and try and find a place to get some tweaking info on the new setup so i can get it fined tuned. Don't want to overclock anything yet but I sure want to get it running at peak performance.

Re: Windows SMP Client setup and backup guide

The 6.10 Beta3 client is a standard (x1) client, not an SMP client.
You need the 5.91 beta6, and 5.92 beta upgrade to use all 4 cores of your CPU properly.

Thanks Debro

I will install in the morning when I get to work.

Do you know of any ill effects of running 2 of the singles on a Quad machine, or any machine for that matter?

Being a High Performance beta just wondered if you had heard of anyone running 2 at a time and if it helped the cause in any way.

Thanks Again for the assist

On a quad core, you need to run 4x singles to maximise your CPU usage.
They fight for memory, that's about it, but since they're all idle/low priority, you shouldn't need to worry too much about that.
The SMP client will get you more PPD than running four singles.
I generally run 3x singles on a Dual core as idle priority, and a single SMP client as low priority, since the smp client won't run as a service, is only & expires too damn often to be reliable.

You run 3 singles and 1 SMP on a regular Dual core machine? at the same time ?

Mine shows 100 % just running 1 SMP om my dual core machines, I did not know you could run single's and the SMP on the same machine at the same time.

I guess that really shows how much of a newbie I am at this.

What can I run on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.41 GHz with 3 GB ram ?
Right now it is running 1 FAH6 and 1 WGC and it is at 100% all the time.

Yes, but only because some PC's are set to reboot when I don't have access to restart the SMP client ... and the SMP client expires every so often, and cannot be started as a machine service

Thanks for all the info, my numbers do seem to be going up faster now that I am using my machines more.
I'll watch them for a week and see how they manage.
